III. Talking about buying things:

1. What is this? :

Structure: Cái Này Là Gì?

(*) “Cái Này” means This thing. “Là Gì” means what is. Normally question in
Vietnamese would put the question word at the end. Only some few cases you
would put question word at the beginning

Exp:
Q: Chị ơi, Cái này là gì? Hey, what is this?
A: Cái này là sữa chua em ơi. This is yogurt.

2. Do you have ?

Structure: Có + (Bán) + (Thing you want to buy) + không?

(*) “Bán” means sell. If you use the question without “bán” it means do you have.
If you use with “bán” it means do you sell.
 Exp:
a. Ở đây có bán thuốc lá không, bạn ơi? Do you sell cigarette
here?
b. Anh có giấy vệ sinh không? Do you have toilet paper?
c. Anh có bán ngũ cốc ở đây không? Do you sell cereal here?

3. Where is the thing?

Structure: (Thing you want to buy) + Ở Đâu?

Exp:
a. Kem ở đâu, em ơi? Where is the ice cream?
b. Chị ơi, Xà Phòng ở đâu? Where is the soap?

4. I want to get/ buy:

Structure: Cho + Pronoun + (Mua/Lấy) + Thing + (Với)

(*) “Cho” is to make a request for something. “Mua” means buy. “Lấy” means
get.

Exp:
a. Cho anh mua phô mai với, em ơi. I want to buy cheese.
b. Cho mình lấy 2 bim bim và 1 cô ca với. I want to get 2 chips and

1 coke
