Philosophy of Nursing

By Bella Rahal

When talking about what truly is a nursing philosophy it is important to recognize

the factors that play a role in the nursing profession. Nursing is a career that encompasses

ones beliefs, values, and ethics when caring for patients. Nursing allows individuals to grow

while changing the lives of others. Throughout my life and nursing school, I have come to

realize the true philosophy of nursing to be one that is versatile and remarkable. My

philosophy of nursing has become a part of who I am, and I continue to allow it to shape the

way I grow in this profession.

I have had personal experiences with hospitalization that has brought me to desire a

career in nursing. I recognized early on that nurses are very resilient individuals and I

found that to be one of my personal traits. Nursing has allowed me to grow, and continue

practicing my moral grounds that I developed throughout my life and expand into my

future of nursing. Integrity, honesty, and trust are all components of nursing that I feel are

standards of care. Throughout my nursing career, these factors are essential in every

patient I interact with. I always want to ensure that I can serve as a patient advocate

throughout their source of healing. Nursing is a profession by which integrity, honesty, and

trust are my priorities.

Along with nursing, it is important to understand each individual patient as a whole.

When caring for a patient it is critical to look at them as a whole system, through their

mind, body, and spirit as essential factors. As a registered nurse, I hope to integrate these

components into my patient care. Taking in every aspect of my philosophy of nursing, I can

become the nurse I have forever dreamed of becoming.
