Paper Code: ETEC-208 Paper Title: Communication system

Date:-_______________

Q1. A wave is represented by the following equation:

V=10 sin[5×108t+4sin1250t]

Determine the following

(i) Carrier and modulating frequency

(ii) Modulation index and maximum deviation
(iii) The power dissipated by this FM wave in a 5Ω resistor.

Q2. In a FM system, the modulating frequency fm=1kHz, the modulating voltage Vm=2 volt and
the deviation is 6 kHz. If the modulating voltage is raised to 4 volt then what will be the new
deviation? If the modulating voltage is further increased to 8 volt and modulating frequency is
reduced to 500 Hz, what will be deviation?

Q3. When the modulating frequency in an FM system is 400 Hz and the modulating voltage is
2.4 v, the modulation index is 60. Calculate: The maximum deviation. What will be the
modulation index when the modulating frequency is reduce to 250 Hz and modulating voltage is
simultaneously raised to 3.2v.

Q4. In an FM system, the audio frequency is 1 kHz and audio voltage is 2 volts. The deviation is
4 kHz. if the AF voltage is now increase to 8 volts and its frequency dropped to 500 Hz, find the
modulation index in each case and the corresponding bandwidth using carson’s rule.
