Ms. Weston was a student teacher at MacArthur K-8 University Academy from September 2019- March 2020. When I met Ms. Weston I immediately noticed her drive and passion for teaching the first grade students in her class. By the second week, I observed her working with small groups of students. I was amazed that she knew every student by name in such a short period of time. Ms. Weston took the initiative to build relationships with the students, parents and staff. She attended after school activities such as staff meetings, curriculum night, Oktoberfest, the Black History program etc. Ms. Weston is a hands-on educator and offered her assistance for any project or special program happening in the building. As the school year went on, Ms. Weston gradually assumed the responsibility of the class. She taught every subject with confidence. I was most impressed with how she used Daily 5 to teach literacy skills. At any given time, she had 5 different center lessons going on while ‘working with a small group. Her classroom management skills were impressive. Her calm yet firm demeanor gave the students a sense of security. Ms. Weston would be an asset to any school.
