Wisetech Reduction is Reducing Harm Done by Fires

ERIE CITY, Ont. – April 1, 2020 – Early this morning one of Wisetech Reduction’s recycling

facilities caught fire in Erie City, Ont., and has since been releasing plumes of smoke that are

moving eastward over the city.

“We want to ensure you that we are as concerned about managing the fire as the rest of you,”

says Wisetech Reduction general manager, Percy Smith. “We apologize for the disturbance; our

number one priority has always been the health and safety of residents and workers in the area.”

Wisetech Reduction is working diligently with the Ministry of the Environment and local fire

officials. The ministry is monitoring air conditions and the Erie City fire chief has ordered an

evacuation of all residences and businesses within a three-kilometer radius of the fire. Products

that are not likely to contain dangerous chemicals are stored in larger, open areas of the

warehouse while the most volatile recyclables are stored in separate interior facility with a

double steel roof. The fire marshal has also been called to investigate what caused the fire.

Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Green City, Ont., Wisetech Reduction is the largest

electronics recycling company in Canada. They have won numerous environmental awards and

with 26 recycling warehouses across the country, they are a world leader in electronic recycling.
