GUIDELINES FOR TECHNICAL SEMINAR

OF

VIII Sem, BACHELOR OF TECHNOLOGY

Department of Mechanical Engineering

Jaipur, Rajasthan
1. INTRODUCTION:

Objective

 To practice various activities involved in a seminar presentation – gathering


information, preparation of slides, discussion, reporting.

 To develop the communicative and writing skills in technical reporting.

 To improve the Confidence, Communication & Presentation skills of the students.

2. GENERAL GUIDELINES
2.1. General guidelines for Faculty (Technical seminar coordinators )
1. Each section will be allotted two faculties as Technical seminar coordinators. In the
teaching load sheet one hour will be counted for both the faculties against two hour of
session.

2. Technical seminar coordinators of each section must deliver power point presentation
in the beginning of the semester to the students which shall include the following
points:

1. Objective and Importance of Seminar


2. Weekly schedule
3. Sample seminar topic list and seminar report
4. List of guides with their Experience
5. How to select guide
6. How to select Topic
7. Important details of Seminar
8. Important deadlines for submission
9. Marking scheme
10. Marks distribution sheet
11. Code of Conduct
12. Discussion on Seminar Report Format

3. The Coordinator should regularly monitor and evaluate the progress of the Student
work.

4. The Coordinator should take the attendance of students against each hour. One
Attendance should be awarded for one hour.

5. The report and presentation etc. shall be checked by the faculty as taken by student,
will be named as Guide.
6. The report must be checked and signed by the guide or seminar coordinator and Head
of the Department as per the report format (Annexure: I).

7. After Synopsis submission and finalization of Topic of Each Student, Coordinator


should display a list in Following format with HOD signature;

2.2.General Guidelines for Students:


1. Each student shall finalize his/her seminar topic in the beginning of the eighth
semester. The topic will be approved by the technical seminar Coordinator on the basis
of first come first serve.

2. Topic will be finalized only after submission of hard copy of one page of Synopsis
(format attached as Annexure II and Annexure III), 5 to 10 research papers and topic
explanation in class (5 minutes).

3. Each student must write a Review Paper based on 5 -10 selected research papers.

4. The research papers should be from reputed journals or conferences i.e. Springer,
Elsevier, IEEE etc.

5. Review paper should be based on IEEE format and must be attached as Annexure in
the final report.

6. Before submitting the final seminar report student should submit draft report
(hardcopy spiral bound) in the given format.

7. Draft report should be checked and signed by the designated guide.

8. After approval of draft report, student shall submit 2 hard binding final reports with
light pink color cover page.

Important Points

1. Binding: Technical Seminar report shall be hard cover


bound in light pink color and the printing on the cover will be in Black color.
2. The Report shall be computer typed (English- US, Font
-Times Roman, Size-12 point) and printed on A4 size paper. Main Heading Font size: 14 bold,
Sub heading =12 with italics & bold, Figure & Table captions font size= 10 bold. Chapter title
font size- 16 bold at the center. Page numbers at the bottom center. Header: Dissertation title
font size 9 (left), Session (right), Footer: Left- Poornima College Of Engineering, Jaipur;
Right- B. Tech., Department name, size 10, Front Cover & other pages as per formats
supplied.
3. The report shall be typed on one side only with 1.5 space
with a margin 3.5 cm on the left, 2.5 cm on the top, and 2.5 cm on the right and at bottom.
4. The caption for Figure must be given at the BOTTOM of
the Fig. and Caption for the Table must be given at the TOP of the Table.
Note: Before printing the final report, draft of report shall be approved by the respective
seminar Supervisor and HOD.
