Welcome
Congratulations and welcome to your role as the Recruitment and Outreach
Specialist for the Department of Chemical and Paper Engineering! We are
excited for you to be joining this team. This document will provide valuable
insight into your role and valuable allies to assist you in recruitment efforts,
information on past events, and more.
The information contained in here is valuable to you as the recruiter for the
department. This document will give you more information on the operations for
the Paper Technology Foundation (PTF) as well. This is a living document, so
please update names, offices, etc. as needed.

Typical Activities by Month

This section is going to cover some of the typical activities, recommendations,
strategies that have been used. The earlier you get started with things like the
informational mailers/emails the better. It is recommended that you try and run
Cognos (see page 13) reports to do targeted emails so that when you go to the
college fairs students are aware that (A) the College of Engineering and Applied
Sciences (CEAS) will be present and (B) they have a heads up about paper
engineering and might spark an interest before the college fair starts.
August
Passport Day

o This day is scheduled during Welcome Week. Anetra Grice (see page 23
in the Academic Advising Office in CEAS organizes and communicates
the information for the event. Engineering students will get to explore the
building, go to the various offices and departments to learn something new
and get some candy or stamps toward a prize.
o Previously, this has been used as an opportunity to provide tours of the
paper pilot plants. This was also an early opportunity for about 4-5
students to complete their volunteer hours for the academic semester.
o Ensure that you communicate with Lon Pschigoda (see page 21) for
permission to tour the pilot plant facilities.
Register for MACRAO College Fairs

o The college fairs are specific to Michigan hosted by various high schools
or counties. Coordinate with Scot Conant (see page 22) and communicate
the areas/fairs that you will be going so that he can cover the areas you
are unable to go to. These college fairs do not cost anything to attend,
unlike the NACAC fairs, discussed in the next section.
o MACRAO Fairs previously attended:
 Brighton High School
 Northwood University

4
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
 Wayne County Community College District
 City of Warren
 Schoolcraft
 Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy (out-of-state)
 Bloomfield
 Royal Oak High School
 Canterbury High School (out-of-state)
 Van Buren Tech Center
 Kalamazoo Valley Community College
 Aquinas College
 Mott Community College
 Kellogg Community College
Register for NACAC College Fairs

o These are the national college fairs that are hosted around the country.
The two primary fairs that we usually attend in the fall are in Indianapolis
and Chicago. Avoid going to Wisconsin as there has been little to no
success in recruiting students from there to paper engineering.
September
Department Meet and Greet

 It is a requirement for the scholarships students to attend the department

meet and greet. Following the meet and greet is the first meeting for Ts’ai
Lun, the registered student organization (RSO) for paper engineering.
Students will get introduced to the student organization and learn a little bit
more about what to expect for the semester and the activities that the
RSO will be sponsoring.
Fall Field Trip

 This is an opportunity for students to take an all-expense paid trip to

industry sites. They will also have the opportunity to connect with alumni
via the alumni networking event. You will need to complete a Travel
Authorization (TA) form for this event.
Attend MACRAO College Fairs

 This is going to be the beginning of your travel season. It would be wise to

get a 10 week or longer rental from Hertz, it will be cheaper in the long
term.
o Research the area the college fair is in. Then contact the teachers
from the database to schedule a potential classroom
visit/presentation. Finally, reserve a hotel in the area to cover the
most ground.

5
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
 Talk to Tom Thinnes from the College of Aviation about splitting a table to
save money
 Put all events you plan on attending in the TargetX/Salesforce
Calendar
o Contact John Brown at: john.a.brown@wmich.edu so that you
can get recruiter access to Salesforce
WMU Open House Events

 The number of these events has been changing between 3-4 senior open
house events, 1 junior open house, and 1 transfer preview day. As these
events pop up you will want to connect with Lon and see if you would be
able to give tours of the pilot plants.
 Once you receive approval that you are able to go through, connect with
scholarship students and request volunteers to provide tours of the
pilot plants. Use upper-level students for the first few or strong first-year
students for these events.
 The recommended number of students can vary depending on the amount
of students that will be in attendance, but usually 3-4 is a good number of
volunteers.
o Roles/Responsibility of volunteers: engage in conversations with
prospective students and families, go through the pilot plant tours,
share experiences in the program and what they are most excited
for.
 Go to the reports section in TargetX/Salesforce and see if you can pull the
students for engineering. The names for the report will be sent out by the
Admissions Events Planner.
o There is an email template for chemical engineering students to
encourage them to look into paper engineering as a dual major that
would be sent to those folks. You can find this template in the New
Recruiter folder in the shared drive.
o Same for engineering undecided. Encouraging the students to
visit the pilot plants while they are at the academic college is
key! A student is more likely to become interested when they see
the equipment in the pilot plant and hear about some of the uses
and impacts these machines can have for the program and
industry. You can find this template in the New Recruiter folder in
the shared drive.
Send Information Packets

 Be sure that you are pulling reports for the students that are applying to
the university and meet the eligibility for the PTF scholarship (ACT math
sub-score of 25+ and SAT math sub-score of 600+) then send them
informational packets (see Cognos 10.20 on page 12). Each of these

6
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
packets should have a variety of materials to showcase paper engineering
along with the opportunities that it will afford them if they decide to pursue
paper engineering.
 Key packet items have been placed in the New Recruiter Folder
 Depending on the amount of packets that you need to put together this
could also serve as a volunteer opportunity for students.
 Do this early on via the recycled envelope packets, followed up with an
email.
October
MACRAO College Fairs and NACAC Fairs

 Travel season is still going on at this time.

PTF Dinner and Board Meeting

 This is the first meeting of the academic year. Jen Johnson will
communicate the details of when and where things will be happening. Talk
with the board member representatives and get to know them, they will
serve as a strong resource as far as information about the industry and
new developments.
WMU Open Houses

 Still ongoing, same as before. Be sure that you are pulling the
TargetX/Salesforce reports of the students that will be attending and send
them an email heads up about the paper engineering program and the
pilot plant tours.
 Continue to communicate with Lon about the tours and seeking approval,
then communicate the volunteer opportunity with the scholarship students.
November
School Visits

 These visits are organized by the Graduate Assistant for Student

Outreach and Recruitment (GA) (see page 22) The GA will communicate
with you about upcoming visits (i.e. the size of the group, time
commitment, and age/grade range of the group). This information will help
you determine the most impactful activity for the student group.
o High School – tours of the pilot plants and seeing the equipment is
usually best. Ensure that you have a student with you so they can
provide their experience and talk about being a paper engineering.
The number of volunteers will vary depending on the size of the
group.
o Middle School – making handsheets with these students is more
engaging for their age group. Be sure to communicate with
Stoops (see page 20) and see if he can have the pulp pre-made
7
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
for the event. You will want to let him know the date, time, and size
of the group.
Medallion Competition

 For the Medallion competition you will have the showcase set-up; this is
similar to the open house events. Invite 1-2 upper-level students.
 Communicate with Lon about offering tours of the pilot plants, then
communicate the volunteer opportunity with the scholarship students.
 There is an option for students and their families to attend a social. Invite
1-2 upper-level or strong first-year students to attend that event as well.
 In the spring time, the semifinalists will be invited to campus for an
interview. It would be a good idea to host the student and their guests for
lunch (Latitude 42 has been used frequently) and offer them a tour of the
Paper Pilot Plant facilities if they have not seen them yet.
Schedule High School Visits

 Collaborate with the students on this. Offer them a 1 hour volunteer credit
if they email a high school teacher for Chemistry/AP Chem., Physics/AP
Physics, Engineering, Pre-Calc./AP Calc., etc. Inform them that they can
get full volunteer credit if they are able to attend and present to the
classroom with you (if you get the opportunity to present in the classroom).
 An email template has been built that you can use located in the New
Recruiter folder.
December
December 1 is the scholarship deadline for students to receive the $500
Early Bird scholarship bonus. Continue working on all previous efforts,
this includes sending emails to students about the program. This would
also be a great time to send information via hard mail to student home
addresses. During this time of the year, Jen puts in an order for Christmas
cards for PTF, use those to send to your top student prospects.
January
TAPPI Student Summit

 This event takes place over MLK weekend. The location of the Student
Summit changes every year, but the timing is always the same. The
purpose of student summit is to introduce the paper engineering students
to students from other schools and expose them to more industry
professionals in a conference setting.
 You will need to complete a Travel Authorization (TA) form for this.

8
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
STEM NACAC and General NACAC Fairs

 Communicate with Sarah Drabik (see page 23) about the potential for
attending a NACAC STEM fair and the other fairs that you are interested
in attending. These are strictly for students interested in STEM fields. Be
aware that the NACAC STEM and NACAC fairs you attend in the spring
you will primarily see lower-level students (i.e., 9th-11th) there will be a few
seniors throughout, but not many.
 The STEM fair you more than likely will be paying for your own table, but
you can talk with Scot to see what NACAC fairs he is going to be paying
for and ask about attending the fairs with him if you are available.
 Communicate with Tom or Admissions and inquire about sharing a table
to split the cost and save money.
Golden Opportunity

 Not necessarily a recruitment event, but an opportunity for you to invite

some female scholarship students to help provide tours of the pilot plants
which could sway some students toward paper engineering.
 Again, communicate with Lon for approval.
February
WMU Campus Admitted Student Events

 This is a time for students admitted to WMU to register for housing,

student orientation, talk with financial aid, career and student employment
services, etc. However, this also may be their first time visiting campus as
well.
 You should still coordinate tours of the pilot plants and get scholarship
students to assist.
March
WMU Campus Admitted Student Events

 See above
NACAC College Fairs

 Two of the fairs that are held within Michigan are the Grand Rapids
NACAC and Metro Detroit NACAC Fairs (Scot has paid for these two fairs
previously)
 Two other fairs that have been attended previously are Cleveland and
Columbus NACAC fairs (Paid by the Recruitment Budget)

9
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
Science Olympiad

 This is an event that is coordinated and implemented by the College of

Arts and Sciences as well as the College of Engineering and Applied
Sciences.
 This is also a great opportunity for scholarships students to volunteer and
earn their scholarship requirement.
 There is no limit as to the amount of students that can volunteer.
April
PTF Spring Board Meeting

 Same as the fall meeting. The only difference for this is: the numbers you
are reporting and the plan for improvement.
PaperCon

 The timing for PaperCon varies whether it is before/during/after finals

week. It is also something that you will travel to.
 You will need to complete a Travel Authorization (TA) form for this.
May
School Visits

 These visits are organized by the CEAS GA for Outreach. They will
communicate with you about upcoming visits (i.e. the size of the group,
time commitment, and age/grade range of the group). This information will
help you determine the most impactful activity for the student group.
o High School – tours of the pilot plants and seeing the equipment is
usually best. Ensure that you have a student or tour with you so
they can provide their experience and talk about being a paper
engineering. The number of volunteers will depend on the size of
the group.
o Middle School – making handsheets with these students is more
engaging for their age group. Be sure to communicate with Stoops
and see if he can have the pulp pre-made for the event. You will
want to let him know the date, time, and size of the group.
June
New Student Orientation

New students will come on campus for a two day event. Before the
students arrive you should: communicate with the undecided
engineering students that meet the math eligibility requirement for pre-
engineering and offer the students an opportunity to tour the pilot plant
facilities on Day 2 after registration.

10
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
 On day 1, students will have a parent family mixer that they will
attend. Communicate with Steve Booher if you can get a table to
host paper engineering information.
 On day 2, students will register for their classes.

Shared Drive Information

Everything you need or will need is contained in the shared drive. There is a wide
variety of things that are in there. This section will cover some of the more
commonly accessed folders for recruitment and other information.
BOT – SPRING Meeting and BOT – Annual Meeting FALL
Always refer to the term and year to locate the folder for the upcoming
board meeting. You will need to submit agenda items to the Managing
Director for the Recruitment and Scholarship Committee.
For the FALL BOT – you will report on your progress, where your focus
and what your strategy is, the key messages and talking points regarding
the program, enrollment numbers (located in Student Enrollment –
Cognos Reports see page13) and recruitment activities (number of college
fairs attended and other activities that you have completed or are working
on)
For the SPRING BOT – you will be reporting on the projections for
incoming fall class enrollment. The numbers for current spring enrollment
can be found in the Student Enrollment – Cognos Reports. You will want
to work with Steve Booher in the Office of Student Transitions to get the
numbers of paper engineering students registered for summer orientation.
In this board meeting you will discuss the efforts that you will continue with
and what your plans for improvement are.
Field Trips
In the field trips folder you will find the information necessary to complete
the Travel Authorization form. Jen will put all the expense information that
you need for the Travel Authorization in an excel sheet labeled as Budget.
PaperCon
Be sure that you find the corresponding year so that you are using the
most accurate information for the Travel Authorization form. In the
subfolder you will want to look for the Conference Budget spreadsheet, or
a related budget spreadsheet.
Photographs
This is the folder that you will place the pictures that you take. It is
important that you assist Jen in taking pictures at different events so that

11
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
you have a larger database of pictures to pull from for marketing
purposes. Each folder is labeled with the corresponding academic year.
Recruiting All
This folder contains folders from previous recruiters and key things that
are the most beneficial for you as the new recruiter. Explore the other
folders and see if there is anything you could use from the past recruiters.
There is a New Recruiter folder that contains the logos for the college
and the PTF. In this folder you will also find some of the key marketing
materials that have been created and used for informational purposes.
Feel free to create your own folder, but do not change the new recruiter
folder, unless you are adding to it.
Scholarships: 1-FALL SEMESTERS
The folder you will most commonly access for scholarships is the fall
semester corresponding to the academic term of the incoming class. This
is where Jen and her student admin assistants will place the essays that
the students submit. Additionally, Jen has a spreadsheet that is used by
her and her student admin assistants to communicate with the students
that have submitted the scholarship application.
Before they can communicate with the student you will need to verify
eligibility:
 Student has declared pre-paper engineering as their primary major
 Student has met the pre-engineering math scores 600+ SAT and
25+ ACT
 Is a U.S. or Canadian citizen.
You will need to provide the information in the bullets above in addition to
the student’s personal and WMU email address to Jen and her student
admin assistants.
Student Enrollment – Cognos Reports
Be sure you are looking at the corresponding academic term. In the folder
you will find the RSO list- co-ops and scholarships (this is usually the
report that is ran in the fall) the spring report is labeled as RSO list- co-
ops and scholarships for spring. These spreadsheets will tell you which
students in paper engineering are on scholarship. The students that are
on scholarship are required to complete a minimum of 3 hours volunteer
service. The volunteer opportunities must be paper related. Examples
include:
 Assisting with pilot plant tours for open house and admitted student
events
 Volunteering with Ts’ai Lun

12
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
 Assisting the CEAS GA for Outreach with activities, assisting with
handsheets for visiting groups
 High school presentations
 Emailing high school teachers for potentially presenting in their
classrooms
You are responsible for providing volunteer opportunities for the
scholarship students to complete their requirement and remain compliant
with the scholarship guidelines.
This is also the folder where you will locate the current enrollment
numbers for when you have to report those items to the PTF BOT.
Student Summit
This is another folder that you will want to make sure the year corresponds
with the subfolder that you need. This will give you the information that
you need to be able to complete the Travel Authorization form for Student
Summit. Again, you will be looking at the excel sheet that is labeled as
Budget.

Resources
Cognos Reports
Cognos is a great tool that allows you to look up a variety of information. You will
need to request access to Cognos from your supervisor, Department Chair. Once
you have received the approval for access you will need the following link:

10.10 Census Reporting

Rarely will you run this report. It is more so if you are interested in seeing
what the trends for the college are as far as enrollment is concerned. But
this folder is worth noting simply as a resource for seeing the academic
college trends.
10.20 Applications

This is another folder you will commonly use, more so than the 10.10
folder. The reason is because this folder will allow you to collect
information about the students that have applied such as their names,
mailing addresses, SAT/ACT scores, etc. This is also an easier way to pull
the information for the mail merge when you are ready to send out
packets.
The report you want to run is a 10.20.20

 Be sure to make your term selection for the academic term you are
interested in gathering information for.
 The date type and range, it is best to filter by term only (selected on left)
so that you are only pulling information for that academic term
 Under Optional Filters:
o Be sure that you select undergraduate for the student level.
o Check the box for admitted under the application status. This will
ensure that you are not getting student information for students that
have been denied, cancelled, pending, or no decision made.
 Click NEXT so you can select the Engineering and Applied Sciences
under the academic college section.
 Finally click FINISH
Travel Authorization (TA)

To locate the calendar in TargetX/SalesForce, you are going to want to

change the view from Recruitment Manager to Events. To add an event
that you will be attending, select the New Event option and provide as
much detail about the event as possible.

Key University Faculty and Staff

Department Staff
Department Chair – Dr. Kecheng Li

Dr. Li will serve as your direct supervisor. He will also formalize and
finalize your annual performance review. When reporting activities,
successes and challenges to Dr. Li, be sure to copy Jen Johnson (Student
Mentor, Admin Assistant) and Tim Hagenbuch (Managing Director) in the
PTF.
Admin Assistant II – TBD

Admin Assistant I – Harmony Manion

Harmony will be your go to person for when you need to order supplies for
your office.

19
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
GPS Faculty – Dr. Sasha Pekarovicova, Dr. Dan Fleming,
and Master Faculty Specialist Lois Lemon

These three individuals are the primary faculty for the Graphic and Printing
Sciences (GPS) program. Lois also assists in recruitment of GPS
students. She primarily recruits on her own, but she and the other faculty
are great resources for information regarding the program and industry.
Dr. Sasha coordinates and plans the visits for the Printing Advisory
Committee (PAC) for presentations on Gravure and Flexo Day (to be
discussed later in this document)
Chemical Engineering Faculty – Dr. Jim Springstead, Dr. Mariko Ago,
Dr. Raj Aravamuthan, Dr. Said Abubakr, Dr. Andy Kline, Dr. Wu, Dr. Dewei
Qi (Chi), Dr. Qiang Yang
Paper Engineering Faculty – Matt Stoops

Stoops is one of the primary individuals that works with the paper
engineering students. While the students will take classes with Chemical
Engineering (Chem. E.) faculty, Stoops assists with the paper engineering
labs. He is also the individual you will work with when you have a student
group coming to visit and wish to make handsheets. Stoops will ensure
that the pulp is prepared and ready to go for you.
Paper Technology Foundation
Senior Administrative Assistant and Student Mentor – Jen Johnson

Jen is a great resource for the current Paper Engineering students. Jen
does a variety of things within her role: she serves as the student mentor,
preparing students for interviews with industry companies through mock
interviews, resume critiques, and helping ensure that their internship/co-
op/full-time offers are competitive with the trends in industry.
She also serves as the faculty advisor for Ts’ai Lun, registered student
organization for paper engineering students. She coordinates with the
managing director, department chair, and industry representatives for
guest lecturers. Jen will communicate with you and the Board of Trustees
regarding any information related to the PTF Board meetings that take
place twice a year (spring and fall).
Jen coordinates and plans things related to the engineering expo for the
paper and allied industry companies, such as expo night (the night before
the engineering expo board member companies get a first look at the
paper engineering students).

20
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
Managing Director – Tim Hagenbuch

Tim is the new Managing Director for the PTF and is an alum of the paper
engineering program. He has a lot of great ideas and wants to be involved
with the recruitment process however he is able. Tim is a great resource
for you as he has a lot of experience gained from his time in the paper
industry. He will be the individual you will talk with regarding your budget,
but also about recruitment efforts, challenges, successes, and seeking
support.
General Manager for the Paper Pilot Plants – Lon Pschigoda

Lon oversees the pilot plant operations and works with clients for research
and development work. Contact Lon about giving you a tour of the
pilot plants so that you can become familiar with the language that is
used to talk about the facilities. Whenever you have a visiting school
group, prospective student and families, open house events, etc. you will
need to communicate with him to inquire about the availability and
potential for touring through the paper pilot plants. Because of the work
that is being done in the paper pilot plants, some clients may not feel
comfortable with non-industry representatives or pilot plant staff walking
through during their trials.
Board of Trustees (BOT) – Industry Representatives

The PTF Board of Trustees is comprised of various industry companies.

Each of these companies pays a member ship fee to be part of the board.
Getting to know these folks will help you learn more about the industry,
potentially offer collaboration efforts between you and their company, and
they serve as a strong support system for the students. Twice a year the
board will come together to discuss a variety of business items, but they
also come to have lunch and mentor students. As the recruiter you will be
sitting in on the Recruitment and Scholarship Committee (RSC). This is
where you will report your recruitment efforts, numbers, seek guidance,
request information/support, discuss marketing strategies, etc.
Printing Advisory Committee
The printing advisory committee is similar to the PTF Board of Trustees,
but not as big. They also meet twice a year; in the fall they meet for
Gravure day, named for gravure printing, and in the spring they meet for
Flexo day, named for flexo printing. Both of these days will bring in
industry professionals from the printing arena to give presentations to
students about their companies, processes, and other hot topics.
Following the presentations will be a meeting with the industry
representatives, faculty, and you. This is once again where you will report

21
Anthony Perez | Edited: JUNE, 2019
numbers, recruitment activities, give updates on enrollment and incoming
students.
College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS)
Manager for Recruitment and Outreach – Scot Conant

Scot oversees the recruitment and outreach for CEAS. It is wise to

coordinate with him on which events you are going to be attending so that
you can cover the most ground. When you are traveling you are always
representing CEAS so it is important to know some information about all of
the academic programs in the college. You will also be working closely
with Scot as you will be sharing a table at the open house and admitted
student events. Communicate frequently with him for teacher/classroom
contacts, CEAS supplies, event planning, and student volunteer
opportunities. Scot appreciates bourbon and honesty.
Graduate Assistant for Student Outreach and Recruitment

The GA is supervised by Scot Conant and responsible for coordinating

visit days with various school groups/grades. The GA also works closely
with the college ambassadors. When a special visit is planned the GA will
ask for activities for the students; depending on the amount of time allotted
and the grade of the students you may be able to do a tour of the paper
pilot plants and make handsheets. There may also be a need for extra
volunteers on an open house, admitted student event, or another event
which you can offer your students as opportunities to complete their
volunteer hours for their scholarship.
Paper Engineering Academic Advisor – Kyle Manninen

Kyle is one of the previous recruiters for the department and currently
serves as the academic advisor for the paper engineering students. He
has a wide variety of experience and can recommend different college
fairs that may be of interest to you, or he may still be receiving emails from
various schools that he will be sure to pass along if he is able. If students
have questions about their courses or creating a graduation plan they
should be directed to Kyle. He is also the STEP (Stem Talent Expansion
Program) faculty mentor for new incoming Paper Engineering students.
Marketing Specialist – Holly Blanks

Holly is a great resource for assisting you with marketing pieces by

helping you improve the design you have created. She also controls the
social media posts for the college. If you have something to post on social
media, simply write something up for the caption/status, attach the item
that you would like her to post along with it, and then send it along. If you
are interested in doing things with the departmental website, she is your

go-to person to make sure that everything follows the appropriate
guidelines and such as set forth by the university and ADA compliance.
Program Manager for STEP Program – Anetra Grice

Anetra coordinates and implements the Passport Day event that takes
place during Welcome Week for incoming students. She also oversees the
STEM Talent Expansion Program which serves as an academic resource
for students within the college. This includes the Student Success
Centers, which offer free tutoring and support for all CEAS students.
STEP designs cohorts so that all new incoming students are in courses
with other students in their major for their first two semesters. This
provides a natural setting for study groups to develop. STEP offers
tutoring services at three different locations on campus and provides
resources to help students succeed in their courses. Visit their website at
wmich.edu/step to learn more about the program.
Office of Admissions
Director of Admissions – Alicia Kornowa

Alicia has been fundamental in listening to the concerns and assisting with
alternative ideas to increase numbers for the paper engineering program.
She is someone to build a strong and positive relationship with as she is a
great resource and ally. Alicia has the ability to do some reverse searches
to identify some key schools or target areas for recruitment that have a
high output of students interested in engineering. She is also the individual
that you will want to talk to if you are interested in doing a name buy
(purchasing a list of names, or leads, from ACT, PSAT, College Board,
etc.)
Associate Director for Outreach – Scott Hennessy

Scott coordinates visit days and special events for WMU. He also works
with the main campus student ambassadors. Be sure that Scott Hennessy
adds you to the recruiter mailing list so that you can be informed on any
potential special events that you may be able to collaborate with.
Associate Director for Admissions – Sarah Drabik

Sarah is someone that you will want to connect with early in the semester
so that you can host the admission counselors in CEAS and show them
the pilot plants. Some of admissions counselors are new and may not be
aware of the awesome opportunities that paper engineering has to offer
prospective students. Sarah is also the individual that makes the
reservations for the NACAC Fairs (national college fairs).

Associate Director, Recruitment Marketing and Communications – Megan
Anderson

Megan can help you with email campaigns and ensuring that everything
you want and need is working appropriately and effectively. She is also a
good person to coordinate with to learn the ins/outs of TargetX/SalesForce
(database of student information and prospective leads).
Admissions Events Planner – Natalie Faculak

Natalie is responsible for coordinate and planning the events for the
admissions visit days. She will create the TargetX/Salesforce reports that
will be used to gather student information. She will send the name of the
reports via email and these are what you will use to contact the students
ahead of the event. Be sure to email Natalie so that you are on the
email list.
Admissions Counselors

You will frequently see the admissions counselors while on the road. At
the beginning of the fall semester it would be a good idea to host the
admissions counselors at CEAS for a tour through the pilot plants, give
them some information on the paper engineering program, and invite
students to come and share their experiences. It is recommended that you
prepare some informational packets for them to browse at their leisure.
Admissions Counselor – Anthony Perez

Anthony is the most recent recruitment specialist. He has moved into a

new role as an admissions counselor on main campus in Seibert. He will
pass along any information received about potential recruits, college fairs,
etc. He is also a good resource if you have questions regarding the
position or need a little guidance.
Office Supervisor – Melissa Lynserra

Contact Melissa for students who have been admitted to WMU that may
need to declare paper engineering as their primary major. In order for this
process to be ethical and appropriately completed, you can communicate
on behalf of the student; however, you need to have the student send you
an email that states
“I would like to declare pre-paper engineering” or “I would like to
change my major to pre-paper engineering.” At that point you can
forward the email to Melissa; once she has made the change it takes
about 1-2 business days for the change to show up in Banner, this is a
online database that will allow you to review student records.

sessions; you will need these numbers to report for the PTF Board
Meeting.
