Safe operation (1). After jacking up, always support with rigid stands. {2) When hoisting the vehicle or its heavy component, use wire rope(s) with a sufficient reserve in load capacity. (3) Always disconnect the battery plugs before the inspection or servicing of electrical parts. 2. Protection of functional parts {1} After the end of vehicle inspection and/or maintenance, carefully check each connector for per- fect connection without ommission before battery plug connection, Ommission of connection of any connector related to the controller, especially, may cause damage of controller internat elements. 3. Tactful operation (1) Prepare the mechanic tools, necessary measuring instruments (circuit tester, megger, oll pres- sure gauge, etc.) and SSTs before starting operation (2). Before disconnecting wiring, always check the cable color and wiring state (3) When overhauling functioinal parts, complicated portions or related mechanisms, arrange the parts neatly to prevent confusion. (4) When disassembling and inspecting such a precision part as the control valve, use clean tools and operate in a clean location. (5) Follow the described procedures for disassembly, inspection and reassembly (6) Replace, gaskets, packings and O-rings with new ones each time of disassembly. (7) Use genuine Toyota parts for replacement {8) Use specified bolt and nuts. Observe the specified tightening torque at the time of reassembly If no tightening torque is specified, tighten the bolt or nut according to the standard tightening torque table. 4. Grasping the trouble state When a trouble occurs, do not attempt immediate disassembly or replacement but first check if the trouble requires disassembly or replacement for remedying. 09 CIRCUIT TESTER Circuit testers are vailable in both the analog and digital types. They should be used selectively accord- ing to the purpose of measurement. ‘Anelog type: This type is convenient for observing movement during operation, but the measured value should only be used for reference or rough judgement Digital type: Fairly accurate reading is possible, but it is difficult to observe the variation or movement 1. Difference in measurement results with the digital type and analog type * The result may be different between measurements with the analog type and digital type. Always use a circuit tester according to its operation manual. Cautions when the polarities are different between the analog type and digital type are described below. If the bolt moves, retighten it according to the steps below. 2. Method for reuse of precoat bolts (1) Wash the bolt and threaded hole. (The threaded hole must be washed even for replacement of the bolt.) (2) Perfectly dry the washed parts by air blowing. (3) Coat the specified seal lock agent to the threaded por- tion of the bolt. HIGH PRESSURE HOSE FITTING TIGHTENING TORQUE 1. When connecting a high pressure hose, wipe the hose fitting and mating nipple contact surfaces with clean cloth to remove foreign matters and dirt. Also check no dent or other damage on the contact surfaces before installa! 2. When connecting a high pressure hose, hold the hose to align the fitting with the nipple and tighten the fitting. 3. Since water addition is excessive if the float tip end mas into contact with the stopper, stop water addi- tion as soon as the white line appears Since a level gage is provided at a front of the battery case, the electrolyte level can generally be checked at a glance but check the level by opening the cap at the time of periodic inspection. ‘The green lamp of the level gage comes on to indicate actuation of the level gage sensor, and the red lamp flashes to indicate the necessity of water addition. 1 i | Green lamp lh Toma electrolyte level OFF On easy electrolytelevel | Pasig. on Note: Never change the mounting position of the plug with the Reference ‘The consumption of the electrolyte can be calculated by the following equation: Consumption (cc) hour capacity x 0.0336 = number of cells x number of charges Number of cells eaten g0.arB10.14 2 330 0-0F815-18 ' 400 30-6°820 ' 420 S0rB25 ' bi 50-0830 36 450 40-0FB15 24 600 | 40.6820.25 1 730 1-8 Rubber bab Hydrometer ur tube Nozzle Electrolyte inspection ‘The battery electrolyte is colorless and transparent in normal state. Wait until the air bubbles in the suck- ed electrolyte disappear. Read the scale at the top of the raised portion of the surface as shown at left. @ After the measurement, wash the inside and out- side of the hydrometer with clear water, and wipe the hydrometer thoroughly with clean cloth for storage. Battery control table Prepare a control table for the battery to record and maintain the inspection results. Note: When the insulation resistance remove the battery from the vehicle and wash it with water. * After washing with water, make the battery dry thoroughly. Measure the insulation resistance again and install the battery on the vehicle after confirming that it is 1 MQ or more. 4, Insulation resistance inspection Measure the resistance between the battery and bat- tery case with an insulation resistance meter (megger). At the same time, such actions as traveling stop, material handling stop and traveling speed restriction are taken automatically to ensure safety. When the plug-in analyzer as an SST is connected, the analyzer (fault analysis) mode can be selected for detecting the defective portion and checking the functions of the main drive and material handling cuits, operating systems and sensors. In the vehicle with the optional all-round display, these checks are possible by setting the display to the analyzer mode. For the diagnosis and the analyzer, see Display function section.
