Be careful not to apply pressure to the keyboardeable, 2. Disconnect the keyboard cable from PJI10 on the system board and remave the keyboard. HDD REMOVAL M2525 Si ver screw HDD slot cover 1. Turn the computer upside down 2. Remove one M2.5x25 silver screw, 3. Lift off he HDD stot cover. EXPANSION MEMORY REMOVAL Insulator sheet Laiches 1, Lit up the ineulator sheet cavering the expansion memory, hake sure the computer is in boot mode 2. Gently press out the latches and the expension memory will pop up. 3. Grasp the expansion memory and pull it out HOD bracket 1. Grasp the HDD braeket and pull it forwardto disconnect the HDD, then grasp the back end of the bracket and lit it out 2. FIELD REPLACEABLE UNIT DOCUMENTATION Satellite™ 4000/4010/4020 Series TOP COVER REMOVAL M2.5x6 silver scene 12.5285, silver sore M2S6 sliver screve. 1, Tum the computer upside down and remove two M2.5x6 silver screws fom the battery slot, one WD.5x6 eilver eerew fom the HDD dot, five MZ.5x25 silver screws from the bottom cover and two M2.5x6 silver screws fiom the back of the computer. 2. Tum the computer right side up and open the displ ay. Top cover Display assembly 1, Remove four M2.5x6 brass screws securing the ‘top cover. 2. Release eight latches securing the top cover and display assembly: three latehes on the let side, three latcheson the front and two latches on the right side. 3. Lif offthe top cover and display assembly in the direction ofthe arrow. Speaker LeD cable cable SpeakerAnverter Insulator 11. Lift up the insulator covering four cables and disconnect them: left speaker cable fom PJ24, right ‘speaker cable from PJ22, FL eable fom P44 and LCD cable fom P43 (DSTN) or P23 (TFT) models. NOTE; Keep tape covering Speakeninverter cables for assembly. INSULATOR REMOVAL Insulator Pin Tape. RTC & backup battery pad 1. Lift out the ineulator over the postioning pin. MOTE: Be sure to reinstall the insulator when assembling the unit. Ifthe insulator is not installed the unit ‘will not power ON, TOSHIBA Tough Enough for Todays World. FIELD REPLACEABLE UNIT DOCUMENTATION Satellite” 4000/4010/4020 Series RTC and BACKUP BATTERY REMOVAL Backup battery RTC battery 1. Remove the tape securing 9 pad over the RTC and backup batteries. 2. Disconnedt the RTC battery cable fiom PJT onthe system board, 3. Disconnect the backup battery ftom PJ802 on the system board. 4. Lift outthe RTC and backup battery. FDD REMOVAL FDD lex cable M2536 brass screw 1, Disconnect the FDD flexible cable ftom P14 on the system board, 2. Remove one M2.5x6 brass screw securing the FDD and remove the FDD. 3, Remove four flat-headl screws securing the FDD to the FD case and separate the FDD flom its case. 4, Disconnect the FDD flexible cable ftom the FDD. Flex, cable M2.5x6 silver screw: LED BOARD and MEMBRANE SWITCH REMOVAL Membrane Pda swvtchy 1. Disconnect the LED board flexible cable fom the LED board. 2. Remove one MB.Sx6 silver screw. 3.Lif upthe left side ofthe LED boardito clear a latch (on the right sie to remove the board, 4. Disconnect the merrbrane'switch cable from P19 on the system board, 5. Release one latch at the front edge ofthe membrane ‘switeh and lit out the membrane switch, MOTE: The FDD , flexible cable and FOD bracket are all separate parts, Please DO NOT send the defedive F DD with the fexible cable and bracket to TOSHIBA. FIELD REPLACEABLE UNIT DOCUMENTATION Satellite” 4000/4010/4020 Series ‘CD-ROM DRIVE REMOVAL Pate, cD-ROM flexible cable 1, Disconnect the CD-ROMflexible cable tom PJ16 on the system board 2. Remove two MPxé6 brase ecrewe securing the CD-ROM drive. 3. Slide out the CD-ROM drive in the direction ofthe M2x6 brass screws arrove SYSTEM BOARD REMOVAL 1. You il first remove the PC card slot cover, Pull out the PC card eject buttons and push them in fully, do not bend them 2. Insert tneezers between the top of the PC card slot cover and the bottom cover of the computer to release twolatches. 3. Pull the top ofthe PC card slot cover forward to remave it. Two internal latehes prevent the card from being pulled straight out, so rotate the top HOTE: The CD-ROM, fexible cable and bracket are all separate parts, Please DO NOT send the defective CD-ROM, flexible cable and bracket to TOSHIBA, The to screws, flexible cable and the CD-ROM bracket should be kept to assemble the CD-ROM you receive from TOSHIBA for the customer's unt, CAUTION: When you lock P 4998 on the CD-ROM ‘connector and P16 on the system boarcl, push beth sides ofthe connector lever at the same time. Disconnect the following five cables: RIC battery cable ‘rom PJ14, backup battery cable Tom PJ802, LED board flexible cable fiom P15, membrane switch eable fom PJAT and CD-ROM P42 on the system board 5. Remove two NB.5x4 brass screws. One securing the system board diredily andthe other securing a small braceon the comer ofthe system board. Lift out the brace with the screw. 2. Remove two NB.5x6 brass screws securing the system board, 3. CPU BOARD REMOVAL ————— Processor module 1214 brass sans System board 1 Remove three MPx14 brass screws and two M24 brass ‘serewe securing the processor module to the system board, inthe following order: 5--4--3-2-1 2. Remove two M2.Sx6 brass screws securing the FL inwerter board. 2. Carefully rotate the FL inwerter board out; fam right to left then disconnect the FL inwerter eable from CN1 and the HV cable from CH2. Remove one M2.5x4 brass screwsecuting the contrast board. ON CDS MODELS ONLY! Disconned the contrast board cable fom PJ1 on the contrast board and lit out the board Remove four M2.5x7 silver screws securing the LCD module to the LED cover Carefully rotate the LCD module from right to lett ofthe LED cover.
