Abstract
The present study is focused on the reservoir
modelling of the middle Jurassic Samana Suk
Formation based on microfacies and diagenetic
studies. The rocks under investigations are
dominantly composed of limestone with inter-bedded
sandstone and marls. The petrographic studies
revealed four microfacies including Pelletal
Mudstone, Dolomitized Wackstone, Bioclastic
Dolomitized Mudstone and Quartz Arenite. The
presence of micritic matrix and pellets suggests that
environment of deposition for the carbonates is low
energy lagoonal conditions while the sandstone
microfacies is deposited in the beach environment.
The diagenetic processes, noticed in the Samana Suk
Formation, includes micritization, dolomitization,
cementation, compaction and fracturing. The
digenetic processes has mostly enhanced the reservoir
potential of the Formation while at some part of the
unit, it has influenced negatively. The petrographic
studies indicates that rock unit possess good porosity
values. On the basis of present study it is concluded
that the Samana Suk Formation is a good reservoir in
the study area.
