TO STUDY THE PREVALENCE OF ANAEMIA IN PREGNANCY AND

RESPONSE TO TREATMENT IN A TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL.

The present study is an attempt to study the prevalence of anaemia in pregnancy and

response to treatment by various modes in a tertiary care hospital.

AIMS

To study the prevalence of anaemia in pregnancy and response to treatment by various

modes in a tertiary care hospital

OBJECTIVES

1. To study the prevalence of different types of anaemia in pregnancy

2. To determine the commonest type of anaemia in pregnancy.

3. To study the response to treatment for the commonest type of anaemia by various

modes.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

1. STUDY DESIGN AND PERIOD

This is a prospective observational study conducted in Department of Obstetrics and

Gynecology in a tertiary care hospital between 2 years . The hospital provides health

care to patients who constitute the population from pan India in origin.

3. SAMPLE SIZE AND SAMPLING PROCEDURES


200 pregnant women who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected for

the study. All pregnant women with anaemia were selected till the stipulated sample

size was achieved.

4. INCLUSION AND EXCLUSION CRITERIA

(a) INCLUSION CRITERIA:

(i) Pregnant women with singleton pregnancy with Haemoglobin less than

10gm/dl.

(ii) Booked cases

(iii) Uncomplicated pregnancy by ruling out any medical/ surgical illness and

bleeding disorders

(iv) Willingness of the patient to participate in the Study.

(b) EXCLUSION CRITERIA:

(i) Chronic medical diseases as Chronic heart disease, Diabetes Mellitus

Tuberculosis, Chronic renal disorders.

(ii) History of antepartum haemorrhage.

(iii) Multiple pregnancies

(iv) Patients with bleeding disorders

(v) Patients having history of blood transfusion during present pregnancy.

(vi) Infections- Malaria, HIV, Kala azar.
