EN 15714-4:2008 (E) 3.2 Action 8} Double Acting (DA) b} Single Acting (SA) with spring action to move clock-wisa (CW) or counter clock-wise (CCW), as par 4.104 3.3. Valve actuator attachment As por EN ISO 5211. 3.4. Motive energy 3.4.1 Operating medium ‘Tha operating medium shall be hydraulic fluid, The fluid may be used, on agreement between the manufacturer/supplier and purchaser, ensuring it is designed for both prassure and compatible with intamal actuator parts and lubricants. The flashpoint shall ba of not lass than $3 °C for pressures below 1 MPa and 157 °C for prassures above 1 MPa. The chemical and physical properties of the hydraulic fluld shall be sultabla for use wéth the materials used in the design of the actuator and Its accessories. ‘The hydraulic fluid shall be suitable for operation of the hydraulic system through the entire temperature range: to which it may be subjected in service, 3.42 Quality The operating medium shall have a contamination level specified to ISO 4406 class 18/16/13 as a maximum. 343° Prassure The manufacturer/supplier shall indicate the actuator’s operating pressure limits. The minimum design pressure for pressure retaining parts shall ba 1,1 mes the maximum allowable pressure selactad from the values definad in 4.3.1. The tast pressure condition shall be considarad in the design of the actuator for pressure containing parts, s80 4.10.5. ‘Working pressure in accordance to manufacturer/supplier indication (as per 4.3.1). The test pressure applied fo the pressure retaining parts shall be a minimum of 1,43 times the design pressure for steel enclosures and a minimum of twice the maximum working pressure for cast staal and spheroidal cast Iron enclosures Hydrostatic testing shall be carried out at tasting pressure. 4 Design requirements 4.1 General ‘The following data shall be provided by the manufacturer/supplier to enable correct actuator selection and performance evaluation. EN 15714~4:2009 (E) 4.2 Output torques (parformance test) The guaranteed minimum, output torque capability of the actuator, In both directions, at specified operating pressures shall be provided by the manufacturerfsupplier ‘Where the output torque varies with the rotation, in a noninear relationship, tabulated data and/or torque curves shall ba provided. 4.3 Pressure ratings and endurance 4.3.1 Pressure ratings Acluators shall be designed to operate with one of the following maximum allowable pressures. Endurance ‘The actuator shall ba designed to have a minimum enduranca, without maintenance, in accordance with values given In Table 2. These are based of at least 60 % of the run torque at a rated working prassure supplied by tha operating medium defined in 3.4.1 (Motive Energy) and in accordanea with the test procedure dotailed in Annax A. For severe contrl service duty these values shall ba agreed hetwaen manufacturerfaupplor and purchaser. 44° Minimum moving pressure The actuator minimurn moving pressura, at ambient temperature, shall be made avallable, by the manufaclurersupplier upon request. 4.5 Leakage ‘The actuator shall be pressure tested in two stages by applying pressures of 15 to 25 % and a minimum of 143 % of tha maximum allowable pressure of the actuator. The actuator shall have no visible extemal leakags as detailed In Table 8 for the duration of tha production test. ‘The test media shall be spacified by the manufacturer. ‘The test madia always shall be compatible with the operation media of tha supplied actuator. ‘The minimum test duration for each test pressure shall be 3 minutes. The test period shall not begin until the test pressure has been reached and has slabilisad. The tests gauge pressura reading and time at the beginning and the end of each pressure holding period shall ba recorded. 4.8 Moving time ‘The actuator manufacturar/supplier shall state the moving time in both directions, without extemal load and without valve at working pressure and without any significant extemal restriction on supply flow, unless othenvise specified. EN 15714-4:2009 (&) 4.7 Angle Part-turn actuators without adjustable end-stops shall bs designed for an output movamant of 90° (- 0°, + 2°) as standard. For parf-turn actuators with adjustable end-stops and a standard nominal output movernent of 90°, tha adjustment range shall be stated by the manufacturer/supplier and shall be, at least, + 3° Other angles are subject to agreement between the manufacturer/supplier and purchaser. 4.8 Fluid displacement volume The manufacturerlsupplier shall Indleale the internal actuator displaced volume (litres) for both directions, including the dead volumes. 4.9 Environmental conditions 4.91 Ambient temperature ‘The actuator shall be designed for operation at an ambient lemperature range between —_20 °C and + 60 unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer/supplier and purchaser. 492 Enclosure protection Tha non pressurised enclosure of tha actuator shall be al least IP 65, according to EN 60529. 49.3 Corrosion protection Hydraulic actuators shall be protected against extemal comrasion by proper material selection and/or surface treatment. The actuator manufacturer's technical documentation shall specify the corrosion protection category according to Tabla 3. The actuator corrosion protection may also be achieved by eystame/methods which daviats from those spedifiad in EN ISO 12044-5. NOTE 2 — Tsbla 3 may be used to define the corrosion catagory in order to help the actuator manufacturers to define the surface treatment for corrosion protaction. Test sssessment and teat procadures are the responsibility of the manufacturer. 4.10 Basic design 4.10.1 Safety requirements Actuators shall be designed taking Into account the technical principles and spacifications for safety. The design of spring return actuators shall permit the safe assemblyidisassembly. when complying with the manufacturerisupplior’s instructions 4.10.2 Part-turn valve actuator attachment The valve attachment for part-turn actuators shall comply with EN ISO 5211 The output drive of part-turn actuators may be an integral part ot a removable component. ‘Tha matertal of the drive component shall be clearly indicated in the supplier's literature. EN 15714~4:2009 (E) 4.40.3 Pressure connections ‘The actuators shall have two fluid operating connections, unlass otherwise specified The postion, location, orientation and form of the operating connections shall be established by the manufacturer. Connections shall be clearly identified with numbers (2 and 4), in accordanes with ISO 5599-2. When pressurised, direction of movement shall be in acoordanca with Table 4 below unless otharwse specifiad. The dimensions of the pressure connections shall be as specified in Table 4 and Figure 1. The actuator shall be properly marked to Indicate the type of thread. All connections shall provide a leak tight seal at tha hydraulic test pressure of the equipment in which they ara installed, 4.10.4 Fail safe direction for spring return actuators For spring retum actuators, the diraction of movement, on loss of operating pressure shall be clearly and permanently indicated In accordance with Figure 2 (See Clause 6). a) Tum clockwise (CW) b) Tum counter clockwise (CCW) Figure 2 — Fail safe directions for part-turn actuators: 4.10.5 Mechanical safety factors Prassurised actuator enclosures shall be designed with minimum safety factors as given in Table 6 below. It shall be possible to adjust the indicator when necessary. EN 15714-4:2009 (E) — Mounting Level 4: fixing level for the bracket to an actuator with dimensions given in Table 7. — Mounting Lavel 2: fixing level on the bracket for positioners and signal devices with FOS attachment in accordance with EN ISO 5211. 2 rotor. + Key 4 mounting level 2; positioner / signal davice, 2 mounting lavel 4; actuator 85,5 ffor M5) o 6.5 (for NS) Figure 4 — Dimensions of optional ancillaries bracket 4.42.2 Manual operation When specified, the actuator shall be supplied with a means of manual operation. ‘The manual operating forces shall be in accordance with EN 12570. ‘Tha design shall include the following safety related features. a} The manual operating element (hand-wheel, lever or hydraulic device) shall remain stationary under power operation. b) The power operation shall be disabled before of when manual operation is engaged. ©) Clear and permanant indication shall be provided to show the opaningiclosing diractions of the manual override which shall be clockwise (CW) to close (hand-wteel or handia), unless otherwise specified. 4.424 End stop adjustment When required, part-turn actuators shall be suppliad with at least one adjustable end-stop (refer to 4.7). 5 Conformity assessment §.1 General ‘The manufacturer/supplier shall demonstrats the compliance of his products to this Europaan Standard by: EN 15714-4:2009 (E) a) carrying out all the type tests (sea 5.2) to ensure all “fitness for purpose" criteria are met; b) controlling the production process (cea 6.4) to ensure the required performance levels are continuously maintained. 5.2 Type tests ‘Tha typa tasts shall corraspond fo all raquitements stated in Clause 4. ‘Type test shall be carried out on actuators that are. representative of the current production Type tests results shall be recorded in a tast report, detailing the type, quantity and sizes of the actuators tested and the tast aquipmanit and measuring devicas used. To qualify a range of actuators, of the same design, manufactured under the same process and from tha sams or equivalent materials, the type tests may be carried out on a limited number of sizes by applying the following rule: When an actuator having 2 nominal autput torque “x" is qualified, all actuators having nominal output torque's between 50 % x and 200 % x fi2 or 2x] are considered qualified. When an actuator with a rotation of *y" Is qualified, all actuators having a rotation between “yi2" and “2y" are also considered qualified The type bast shall be carried out by the manufacturet/suppliers, or by a competent testing institute. A full report of these tests shall be retalned by the manufacturer/supplier as evidence of compliance, Tha appropriate type tests shall be repeated when the design or the production processes have been modified, which could affect the functional performances. ‘The type tests to be performed shall be those givan in Table 8. 5.3 Control of production process and quality system ‘The manufacturer/supptier shail have a Quality Control System capable of efisuring manufactured products comply with the performance requirements of this Europaan Standard, ‘The production varifications to be performed should be those given In Table 6. The following Is optional: €) detailed overhaul instructions; f) hydraulic schematic and electric wiring diagram (when applicable); 9) llomized spare parts list; h) list of racommended spare parts: ’) production tast cortificata (as par 5.3). EN 15714~4:2009 (E} Annex A (normative) Endurance test procedure A1 General Actuators complying with this European Standard shall be type-tasted in agraamont with the following. A.2 Test equipment ‘The test rig shall provide a measurabla torque, shall allow tha fixing of the actuator and shall be sultably designed to allow the full travel of the actuator. Tha test rig shall be equipped with the following calibrated davices: a) aleakage measurement device: b) a_prossure measurement device; ©) an operating cycle counter, 4) an insument for measuring the applied torque and the operating stroke; ¢) an angular position measuring device. A.3 Test conditions ‘The test shall be conducted at ambient temperature (between 15 °C and 30 °C), under tha conditions givan in 43. The motive energy shall be hydraulle fluid and shall comply with 4.9. A4 Test procedure AAA Design life The operating time and cycles shall ba-as specified by the manufacturer, in accordance with 4.3.2 A4.2 Output torque testing Torque values versus angular stroke, In 10° Intervals in both directions of travel, shall be recorded, at least at the start and at the end of the endurance test. AA4.3 Pressure testing Actuator laakage rates at test temperatures, < - 20°C and > + 60°C, shall be measured and recorded at the beginning and at tha end of the test, at both end positions. Values should be based on NTP (Normal Temperature & Pressure). EN 15714-4:2009 (E) Annex B (informative) Actuator selection guidelines B.1 General Actuatad valve malfunctions are often due to the under sizing of actuators. The initlal matartal cost «saving» is usually insignificant, compared with the costly praduction losses and/or danger presented to personnel. Conversely, it is even mors Important, that excessive safaty factors are not applied to valve torques which may result In selected actuators being capable of twisting/shearing valve stems and possibly transmitting a feedback signal that does not correspond to the valve position. This Is usually associated with critical valve applications @.g. ESD (Emergency Shut Down) valves. It Is tharafore essentlal that the corract size of actuator is selacted together with any associated ancillary ‘equipment. To obtain all the information it may ba necessary to question the end user, the contractoridesigner, the valve manufacturer, the actuator manufacturer and ancillary equipment manufacturers. ‘Tha aim of these guidelines Is to provide a clear understanding of the torque requirements and what parameters affect tha correct actuator selection. Relevant questions need to be answered regarding the valve operating sarvice, the actuator working parametersienvironment, ancillary equipment and local regulations. B.2 Selection parameters Determine the appropriata torques and strokes taking into consideration the following parameters and questions 1.0 Valve Questions: 1.1. Valve manufacturer, type, siza, function and operating characteristics. 1.2. Operating conditions: madia, temperature, pressure, flow rate, frequency of operation and requited stroking time. 1.3. Valve torque characteristics (seating/unseating, dynamic torque (when appllcable)]. 1.4. Maximum allowable stam torque limitation (MAST).1 1.5, Safety factors. 2.0 Actuator Questions: 2.1. Motive energy. 2.2. Supply pressure: minimum and maximum. 2.3. Duty: onoff or contral 2.4, Action: double acting ot single acting, (spring to open or spring to clase). 2.5, Fall-safa requirament: to open, close of stay put, also considering associated pilot valves. 1 Note thet the valve stem is nat necessarily the weakast part in tha drive train, EN 15714-4:2009 (E) 2.6. Moving time in both directions. 2:7. Fraquency of operations. 3.0 Ancillary questions: 3.1. Limit switches: type, voltage and local electrical regulations. 3.2. Position transmitters: local electrical regulations. 3.4, Solenoid valve: consider all actuator questions (adjustable flow control daviess may be required when considaring 2.8). 4.0 Environmental conditions: 4.1. NOTE These points are relevant fo all ancillarias and suitable matariale/protaction should be selected. B.3 Actuator selection B.3.1 General After providing answers to clause 1.0, it is the responsibility of the valve manufacturer to provide operating torque values, throughout the valve’s stroke In both directions, Including any relevant safaty factors and the maximum forque that can be applied to the valve stem, Once the valve's torque characteristic values have been established, select an actuator, considering the minimum supply prassure specifiad by the purchaser, that provides a torque (Start torqua, Run torque (when applicable) and End torque) greater than the maximum valve operating torque, taking into consideration varying valve torque values throughout Its stroke, in both diractions. The Figures B2-1, 2-2, B2-3 and B2-4 give, as examples, the torque charactaristics (force and vactor) of the mainly used mechanical eystems (rack and pinion, linear helical spline and scotch yoke actuators). ‘At the maximum supply pressure, the maximum output torque of the selected actuator shall not exceed the maximum allowable valva stam torque limitation (MAST).
