Dear Mr. Cohen,

I write to you today to inform you of the occurring water crisis in Flint. Flint citizens have no
access to clear drinking water. This concerns me because citizens of Flint have to use the toxic
water with a fear of death. Therefore I believe you should look into the mistakes that Flint made
to prevent Tennessee from having a water crisis.
Flint’s water crisis started when the government of Flint switched the water source to the Flint
River. In addition to switching the water supply, Flint government knew that the pipes had been
corroded with lead. Even though Flint has switched their water supply back to Detroit, they have
to take higher steps to renew their pipes.
Tennessee could prevent a water crisis by first renewing our sewage systems and pipes. This
renewal would cost a lot of money, but it would keep the citizens of Tennessee safe. I urge you
to renew our sewage, because Tennessee can’t depend on the aquifer, because it’s getting drilled
which causes a breach in the system. In conclusion, to maintain sustainability, I believe this
would be the best solution to prevent Tennessee from having a water crisis.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

With Best Regards,

A Concerned 6th Grader
