Reported Loss: Property and production loss.

Quantum of Loss: A 'minor' fire broke out at the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) plant at Mahul,
Chembur, on Tuesday afternoon. There were no reports of any casualties or injury. The fire has been brought
under control. around 12.15 pm the fire started at one of the pipelines which was under maintenance. The
pipeline carries petroleum to the storage tanks. The place is close to the Shankar Temple, on the North-gate of
the plant. Fire tenders from the in-house fire fighting set up of the plan were rushed to the spot.

Probable Cause of Loss: Leakage Pipeline carries petroleum to the storage tanks

Preventive Measures:
1. Guidelines on Fire Fighting Equipment and Appliances in Petroleum Industry as per OISD-GDN-115
2. Pressure vessels and storage tank must be designed and constructed in accordance with applicable codes,
standard, state and local laws and regulation.
3. Fire Protection Facilities for Petroleum Refineries and Oil/Gas Processing Plants as per OISD-STD-116
4. Follow Fire Protection Facilities for Petroleum Depots, Terminals, Pipeline Installations & Lube oil
