Adoration of the Holy Cross

Veneration: Behold the Cross

1. Behold the cross on which was hung

life’s very Lord, God’s darling One;
Mary’s own babe, so cold and so still,
helpless before her on Calvary hill.

2. Nails in his hands, nails in his feet,

a traitor kiss upon his cheek;
and his pierced heart, now broken in two,
love crucified for me and for you.
3. Eyes that won’t see, ears that won’t hear,
lips that deny the friend once so dear;
slowly he turns and captures your eye,
then passes on to Calv’ry to die.

4. Behold the cross of Christ in our midst:

all those who bear his wounds in their flesh.
Suff ’ring for crimes of mercy and peace,
signs of the kingdom on Calvary street.

5. Behold the cross on which was hung

life’s very Lord, God’s darling One;
Mary’s own babe, so cold and so still,
helpless before her on Calvary hill.

Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father…

A Prayer for Spiritual Communion:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally,
Come at least spiritually into my heart.
I embrace you as if you were already there
And unite myself wholly to you.
Never permit me to be separated from you.
Amen.

Communion Song: O Crucified Messiah

Refrain
O crucified Messiah,
O crucified Redeemer,
Son of God most holy,
crucified for us.

1. Scorned, denied and beaten,

mocked and defiled,
forsaken by his people,
given up to die.

2. Yet he showed forgiveness

unto them all:
He prayed, “Forgive them, Father,
for they know not what they do.”

3. Looking to the Father,

Jesus cried out:
“Into your hands, O Father,
I commend my spirit.”
