HLTP 2 Task Procedures

1. To start, the teacher will introduce the activity, state the goal for the activity, and run
through the sequence of what will go on during the activity.

2. All students are directed to open the document labeled “Differences and Similarities
Between China and Japan,” located in their “Japanese Empires” folder on Schoology.

3. Students will be given a brief overview of the document, noting that students are to read
the sections provided in the document and to fill in the blanks of the charts, after reading
the corresponding section provided.

4. Students are encouraged to “share roles and divide tasks” as stated in their classroom
norms for the activity. Note to students that they should break up the work required
amongst their group members, then share answers as you complete different sections of
the chart. Give students 10 minutes to complete this task,

5. After the 10 minutes are up, assign each group a different row from the charts provided.
Have one student from each group grab a white board and a box of white board
supplies. Note to students how to set up their boards, depending if they were given a
similarity or a difference, then instruct students to mark on the boards their evidence.
Give students 5 minutes to complete this.

6. Once all groups have filled out their white boards, explain to students that they will
participate in a gallery walk. Have one student for each group present their groups
board. As students do this, stop after each board to correct/add information to the
respective board to make sure students have all of the relevant information. Continue
this cycle for 5 minutes or till all boards have been reviewed by the class.

7. To conclude the activity, the teacher will remind the students of the key
concepts/takeaways for the activity.
