Place the next straight section across the


next support, and attach it to the previous
section with a pair of splice plates and
hardware. Splice plates should be placed on
the outside of the cable tray, unless
otherwise specified by the manufacturer, with
the bolt heads on the inside of the cable tray
(Figure 4.11).

4.3.2 Expansion Splice Plates

It is important that thermal contraction and


expansion be considered when installing cable tray
systems. The length of the straight cable tray run
and the temperature differential govern the number
of expansion splice plates required (see Figure
4.12 and Table 4-2).
