Dwayne Johnson becomes highest paid actor

Dwayne Johnson, previously known as “The Rock” in the wrestling world, was
named the highest paid actor by Forbes on Thursday, taking the title from Robert
Downing Jr. who made the accolade his own for three consecutive years.

The 44 year old wrestler turned actor more than doubled his earnings from last
year due to his roles in movies like “Central Intelligence”, the eighth part of the
fast and furious series and the upcoming “Baywatch”.

The actor took to twitter to announce his achievement: “Want to say two things
about this,” he tweeted. “I started w/$7 bucks. If I can overcome, so can you.
Waffle House on me!!” He tweeted. The actor currently stars in the hit HBO series
“Ballers” which is about the lives and relationships of professional footballers.

Jackie Chan came in second on the Forbes list with $61 million dollars followed by
Matt Damon ($55 million), Tom Cruise ($53 million) and Johnny Depp ($48
million). Rounding out the top 10 list for actors are:

6. Ben Affleck ($43 million)

7. Vin Diesel ($35 million)

8. Shah Rukh Khan ($33 million)

9. Robert Downey Jr. ($33 million)

10. Akshay Kumar ($31.5 million)

Topping Forbes’s list released earlier this week for highest-paid actresses was
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned $46 million — nearly $20 million less than her
male counterpart. The world’s 10 highest-paid actors made a combined $456.5
million, according to Forbes, compared to the $205 million earned by the top 10
actresses. This discrimination has caused outrage among people and actresses
like Jennifer Lawrence have raised their voices against it.
