There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the sequel to Sony and Naughty

Dog’s hit, The Last of Us. The post-apocalyptic masterpiece definitely

rivals Resident Evil 2 for supremacy in the survival-horror genre; a statement
many gamers would attest to. While Naughty Dog has yet to outright confirm the
rumors flying around, the game’s existence was accidentally confirmed during
a live-stream of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. Both voice actor Nolan
North and creator Neil Druckmann have slipped up about whether The Last Of Us
2 was actually in development or not. Fans should not be overhyped however as
production work is set to be halted until DLC for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s
End releases.

“For now I know they're doing Last of Us 2, but my character in Last of Us kind of

met an untimely demise.” Said Nolan North, who plays David in The Last Of Us

“The answer is - and this is totally honest, and I've said this in the past - that
when Bruce and I moved over to Uncharted 4, we were brainstorming ideas
for The Last Of Us 2 with new characters; ideas for TLOU 2 with Joel and Ellie;
ideas for a sci-fi game; ideas for a fantasy game, and building prototypes for each
one of those ideas. And just as we were getting close to settling or narrowing that
list down, we were asked to work on Uncharted 4.” Said Druckmann in an
interview with Playstation Magazine last year.

Ashley Johnson, who voiced Ellie in the first The Last of Us, has said that she’d
“totally jump on board” if there was to be another story with “Ellie or Joel or that
whole world.” However, Johnson also thinks that the game’s story could stand on
its own. Speaking to game spot she said;
“But you know there’s also a part of me that thinks, ‘Man, the story could stand
alone,’ and sometimes we should just leave it alone. If they were to make another
one, though, I would love to be a part of it” .

Unfortunately "The Last of Us" movie, is also on hold.Speaking to 89.3 KPCC's The

Frame, Druckmann confirmed that the production "hasn't moved anywhere” in
the past couple of years. As per Gamespot, they already have a writer for the
film,Renowned producer Sam Raimi is set to produce, while actress Maisie
Williams from "Game of Thrones" is rumored for the role of Ellie, if production
begins soon. Unfortunately, no plans have been set in stone, and fans will have to
wait for developments on both the game and movie.

Currently it would be safe to assume that The Last of Us 2 is at a very early stage
of production, but considering the fact that developers have triggered the topic,
we may hear more in the coming months.
