cables must not exceed 5 mm.
2-2
l If a bundle of cables are bent, cable ties must be used at both sides of the bend
to bind the cables to prevent broken cores caused by strong force at the bend.
l The cable ties must be at an even spacing with enough slack. The cable ties
on a bundle of cables routed in the same direction must face the same direction.
When indoor cables are bound on a horizontal cable ladder, the maximum spacing
between cable ties cannot exceed twice of the rung spacing of the cable ladder.
When indoor cables are bound on a vertical cable ladder, the cables must be
bound with a cable tie at each rung of the cable ladder. When indoor cables are
routed vertically but there is no cable ladder, the cables must be bound with cable
ties at an even spacing within the range from 100 mm to 200 mm.
l Outdoor cables routed along a cable ladder must be bound with cable ties or
fixed securely. If the cables are routed horizontally, the spacing between cable
ties cannot exceed 1 m. If the cables are routed vertically, the spacing between
cable ties cannot exceed 0.8 m. In addition, the cables must be bound at both
sides of a bend.
l The excess tail of each cable tie must be cut off after the cable tie is fastened.
For an indoor cable tie, all the excess tail must be cut off with a smooth cutting
surface. For an outdoor cable tie, 3 mm tail must be reserved after the excess
tail is cut off. White cable ties are used for indoor cables. Black cable ties are
used for outdoor cables. Alternate use of white and black cable ties for indoor or

Prerequisite
l The tools required for optical fiber replacement are available, including a pair of
diagonal pliers, dust-free cotton cloth, a crosshead screwdriver, and an ESD wrist
strap.
l You have known the quantity of optical fibers to be replaced, and the length and type
of each optical fiber.
l A spare optical fiber is available for each optical fiber to be replaced. The spare optical
fiber must be of the same type as the optical fiber to be replaced.
2-8
Context
The ZXSDR R8984E has two optical interfaces: OPT1 and OPT2. Both optical interfaces
support LC optical fiber connectors. The optical interfaces are located in the operation and
maintenance cavity. Figure 2-7 shows an optical fiber.
Caution!
Do not look directly into or keep your eyes close to the end of an optical fiber. Failure to
comply can result in permanent eye damage.
Steps
Disconnecting the Optical Fiber
1. Record the connection position at both ends of the optical fiber to be replaced, and
mark the positions.
2. Disconnect the optical fiber to be replaced.
Open the crimping clip to dismantle the optical fiber of the RRU and BBU.
Installing the New Optical Fiber
3. Route the new optical fiber.
Route the new optical fiber in accordance with the positions of the previous optical
fiber. If the environment on site is changed, route the optical fiber according to the
new requirements.
The following describes the requirements for routing optical fibers:
l If an outdoor optical fiber is bent, ensure that the bend is smooth with a radius no
less than 20 times of the outer diameter of the fiber.
l Outdoor optical fibers must be transported in a packing box. Do not take out
the optical fibers out of the packing box before transporting them to the required
location. The packing box of the outdoor optical fibers must be stored at a place
where the packing box will not be pressed by other engineering materials. Do not
put any heavy objects or fibers on the packing box.
l Route a coiled outdoor optical fiber one segment at a time. Do not stretch the
entire optical fiber straight as a power fiber.
l To keep the connector end of an optical fiber clean, do not remove the seal cap,
dust cap, and bellow from the optical fiber connector until the optical fiber is to be
connected to the equipment.
l If an outdoor optical fiber is routed into the equipment room from a higher position
than the bottom of the feeder window, the optical fiber must be specially bent for
2-9
water ingress prevention. The lowest point of the fiber bend must be 100 mm to
150 mm lower than the window bottom. If the optical fiber is routed from a lower
position than the window bottom, it is not required to bend the fiber for water
ingress prevention.
l Outdoor optical fibers routed along an outdoor fiber ladder must be bound and
fixed with proper force. Horizontally routed optical fibers should be bound at a
spacing no greater than 1 m. Vertically routed optical fibers should be bound at
a spacing no greater than 0.8 m. Both sides of a fiber bend must be bound and
fixed. It is recommended to bind outdoor optical fibers and outdoor DC power
cables separately. There is no limit on the space between optical fibers and power
cables when they are routed in parallel.
l No twist or circle is allowed when an outdoor optical fiber is routed.
l Do not put any heavy cable on the routed outdoor optical fibers. Keep the optical
fibers away from sharp edge.
4. Remove the dust cap from the new optical fiber connector, and store it properly for
future use.
5. Connect one end of the optical fiber to the RRU and the other end to the BBU by
referring to the previous optical connection. For detailed cable installation instructions,
refer to the ZXSDR R8984E TDD 4 Path Remote Radio Unit Hardware Installation.
Note:
If an optical fiber with LC/PC, SC/PC, or FC/PC connectors is used, pay attention to the
direction (Tx or Rx) of the connectors, and ensure that the optical fiber is connected to
correct ports at both ends. Improper connection will result in a failure of optical signal
transmission.

2-17
2-18
Prerequisite
The connection between the outdoor jumper and the connector of the tower-mounted
amplifier and the connection between the outdoor jumper and the feeder connector must
be waterproofed immediately after the installed antenna system passes the antenna tests.
Steps
1. Clean up the dust, oil stains, or other dirt from the feeder connector and the feeder
grounding clip.
2. Wrap the feeder connector with a layer of insulation tape.
After the feeder connector is connected, wrap the connector with the insulation tape
downwards in the direction that the connector tightens, with each round covering half of
the previous round, see Figure A-1. Ensure that the part about 10 mm to the connector
end is wrapped with the insulation tape. When wrapping the connector, exert proper
force on the insulation tape to avoid stretching the tape.
A-1
When wrapping the connector, stretch the waterproof tape to twice of the original
length. Ensure that about 50 cm waterproof tape is used to wrap the connector for
three layers, see Figure A-2.
The wrapping direction must be the same as the direction that the connector tightens
to prevent the connector from loosening. After wrapping the connector with the
waterproof tape, grid and pinch the wrapped part repeatedly with both hands to make
the waterproof tape securely stuck to the feeder connector.
A-2
Note:
The feeder connector should be wrapped upwards from the point about 20 mm to the
connector for the first layer, downwards for the second layer, and then upwards again
for the third layer, with each round covering about one third of the previous round
to prevent the ingress of rainwater. It is not allowed to cut off the tape before the
connector is fully wrapped with three layers.
Wrap the connector with the anti-ultraviolet tape in the direction that the connector
tightens, with each round covering half of the previous round. Ensure that the part
wrapped with the waterproof tape is covered with the anti-ultraviolet tape and more
than 10 mm lower than this part is also wrapped with the anti-ultraviolet tape. After the
connector is wrapped with the anti-ultraviolet tape for three layers, grib and pinch the
wrapped part to make the anti-ultraviolet tape and the waterproof tape stuck securely
with each other, see Figure A-3.
