Social Science

NOTES
Sociology, as part of the cultural sciences, aspires to understand and interpret the actions
of people in a group or society; it also tries to make clear the motives
by which the y made the action.

Max Weber holds that Sociology is the science that proposes to understand social work,
interpreting its meaning f or it and through it, to explain causally its development and
efects.

When the Sociologist employs the method of resuscitation, two results can be
observed.
a) Actual understanding: the way of knowing the manifestation of an action.

b) Explanative understanding: the way of knowing the motives or the reason of the action

Weber demonstrates that from a typical action a correct causal interpretation follows,
then an adequate interpretation is given in the terrain of meanings.

The realization of human behavior has a certain intention that can possess meaning and
can possibly be seen in the comprehension of an e vent; this passes to the difference of
the action by a simple reaction.

He criticized the Positivists, who sear ched onl y f or the supericiality of the phenomena;
but he also tried to overcome the postures of Marxism, as he considered that this theory y
was not the most indicated to explain the social phenomena.
