Assessment of Student Learning

Component 5.a: Select or create authentic, formal assessments that measure student
attainment of short- and long-term objectives.

Artifact: PED 434 Statistics and Assessment in Physical Education Group Project

Date: Spring 2019

Reflection:

My ability to create assessments was assessed in PED 434 Statistics and

Assessment in Physical Education. In this class I had the opportunity to work with
others and create a group presentation that modeled assessment and statistics. Our
presentation was about soccer and various assessments that would be implemented
into a unit.

This project relates to component 5.a in the following manner. In this project we
had assessments for each of the domains along with rubrics on how to grade the
students. This project included various types of assessments including both formal and
informal. The goals for the students were discussed in our rubric and our grading chart.
We were able to create a formula that allowed us to assess and grade our students
based on how they performed on the assessments. This allowed us to create short term
and long term goals for our students throughout the unit.

Creating and assessing student learning is important because it is the foundation

of observing. When you teach you must be able to analyze and assess your students
based off of a rubric or guideline that you create. This assessment will allow you to see
what your students are good at and what they struggle with. You can then use that data
to not only grade your students, but also build your teaching for the future.
