Big Ben’s story

The tower was inaugurated on May 31, 1859, next to the Palace of
Westminster

The story of Big Ben is marked by controversy. A few weeks after the
inauguration, the bell stopped, there was a crack in the big bell due to the fact
that the clash that beat the hours was too big. The English newspaper The
Times reproduced fragments of letters in which readers said that some
protested against the noise and others complained that the sound of the sounds
was not imperial enough.

The Big Ben tower became a British symbol. It has a height of 96 meters
and each one of the four balls of the clock, formed by 312 individual pieces of
crystal. The hands that marked the minutes were made of iron, but since they
were too heavy, they had to be made of copper.
