■ ~ようになる
This expression indicates that a change in a thing or situation takes place.
It can be translated as “reach the point where”, “come to”.
In most cases, it is added to the verbs in the potential form える .
じょうず
❶ 日本語を上手に話せるようになりたい。
I would like to be fluent in Japanese. (I want to reach the point where I can speak Japanese well.)
かんじ
❷ たくさん漢字が書けるようになりました。
Now I can write many kanji. (I have reached the point where I can write many kanji.)
むすこ
❸ 息子は本が読めるようになりました。
Now my son can read books. (My son has reached the point where he can read books.)
■ ~ことにする、ことになる
This expression is used when you make a decision.
ことにする is used more for making an decision based on the speaker’s personal volition.
It can be translated as “decide to”.
Instead, ことになる is used to say that someone is making a decision for us.
But sometimes it is used as indirect form even if the speaker has decided to do something.
It can be translated as “it will be decided that”.
