Chapter 1

I stared down the long narrow road, it’s length and width shadowd by elm trees,
their leaves alredy turning yeallow and orange despite it still being summer, although it
was coming ot an end. I was contemplating if I was really going to do this. The engine of
the rental that I got at the airport was emitting a low hum, it’s engine turned on but idle. I
pulled of the road the moment I turned on to the sideroad that would lead me ... there.

The last time I was on this particular road I was going the other direction, away
rather than towards, breaking free of the chains, departing from everything I ever
known. At the time I thought that I would never be back, that I was closing that particular
chapter of my life, haunted by memories but finally free from the ghosts of the unknown.
