Within the discussion of Nursing Legal Ethico – Moral issues amidst Covid – 19,
A Thought Leaders’ Virtual Conference, the speaker and his colleagues discussed
about some of the major issues that are proceeding in the medical field while this Covid
– 19 is happening and on how and what are the possible solutions for this certain
issues. Our future nurses like me, we must know about the main points of this
discussion for future purposes and for us to know where we are lacking and where we
should give more focus to make our surroundings a better place and keep improving
everything that our country lacks on for our future generations.
One of the issues that are discussed within the discussion is about the rights and
responsibilities of the nurses and their employers or supervisors. One of the leaders of
nurses pointed out that there are high risks for a health care provider to receive the
virus if he/she doesn’t have the right PPE because it is the main necessity for them to
perform what is needed. If the hospital doesn’t have any PPE to provide for their nurses
or health care provider, they will have the right to refuse for duty because it is unsafe for
them and they have to preserve themselves first because if they received the virus there
will be not enough number of nurses to take care of the patients. In our current situation,
we need more nurses to provide the right care needed for infected person to recover.
Also, it is the employers’ responsibility to take care of his/her employees to cope for
what is needed.
The issue of the nurses’ salary was also discussed. Even though that the
government nurses will have a raise on their salary, on the other hand, the nurses on
private hospitals will not be included and for me it is not fair because they are just both
nurses, have the same job and process of work. The salary of nurses in our country is
not enough for the amount of work that they do on daily duties. The ratio between
nurses and patients is way too far from the average that’s why each and every nurse
should have a raise on their salary.
