BRITISH HERBAL PHARMACOPOEIA

HISTORY
The UK founded British Herbal Medical Association (BHMA) IN 1964
to advanced the science and practice of herbal medicines in order to
ensure its statutory recognition.
The BHP is a very useful aid to quality assurance, particularly for herbs
not featured in official pharmacopoeias.
EDITION
 First British Herbal Pharmacopoeia (BHP) was published by
BHMA in 1971 giving monographs and quality control tests for
some of the common herbs and herbal products in the UK

 REVISED EDITIONS in 1990 having 84 monographs


1996 having 169 monographs
UNITED STATES HERBAL PHARMACOPOEIA
HISTORY
The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia began developing qualitative and therapeutic
monographs in 1994, and intends to produce 300 monographs on botanicals,
including many of the Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western herbs most frequently used
in the United States. Once completed, these monographs represent the most
comprehensive and critically reviewed body of information on herbal medicines in
the English language, and will serve as a primary reference for academicians,
health care providers, manufacturers, and regulators.
The AHP monographs are combined monographs , they include much of the
standard definitional and analytical information found in conventional
pharmacopeial monographs on standard plus therapeutical and clinical information
