Headline: The generation addicted to their phones.

Word Count: 316

"Oh those teenagers, always on their phones,” is a very typical phrase said by older
generations that is usually brushed off. But it’s true.
People are able to access different social media platforms, stream TV and movies,
and explore the internet from wherever they are. This easy accessibility and convenience
has created a reliance on phones which can be a time sucker and distraction.
In an age of growing technology, social media has taken off. Instagram, Snapchat,
TikTok, Twitter and other apps have millions of daily users. Typically, teenagers casually
check social media periodically throughout the day, and they do not realize the amount of
time it encompasses. However, the new "screen time" setting on iPhones proves otherwise.
In a poll conducted in The Meridianstaff, results concluded that 83.3% of the staff’s
screen time is between four and seven hours. Only one staff member had a screen time
between one and two hours. The staff was very shocked after they saw the hours they
spent on their phone since it highlighted their lack of productiveness.
This time could be used to accomplish tasks and be productive because high school
requires a lot of time and attention, but teenagers would rather risk their grades to explore
social media.
Social influencers are very popular, and they have teenagers hooked. Most people
have a favorite YouTuber or Instagram celebrity that they seem to idolize. Getting to have
more insight into these celebrities' lifestyle through social media draws in the attention of
fans. Since they are so interested in these celebs’ lives, they want to invest time into
learning more about them and their “cool” lifestyles.
Social media sucks in users causing them to aimlessly watch other people’s lives
from afar. Most succumb to the power while others manage to resist. Screen time greatly
impacts efficiency. Picking up your phone is an option. The choice is yours to make.
