Midi Trigger I/O Drums
GENERAL SETTINGS
*WARNING: We advise not to modify these settings to avoid troubles. These settings are placed for
the developers. Thank you.
PADS SETTINGS
NOTE: From 1 – 127 are MIDI note numbers that sets the mapping of each pad (see Mapping Section on
your drum software to match your pad sound)
TRESHOLD: This setting allows a trigger signal to be received only when the pad is struck harder than a
specified force. This helps prevent unintentional triggering caused by vibrations that reach a pad when
an adjacent pad is hit. In the following example, signal 2 will sound, but signals 1 and 3 will not sound
SCANTIME: Since the rise time of the trigger signal waveform may differ slightly depending on the
characteristics of each pad or drum trigger. You may notice that identical hits (velocity) may produce
sound at different volumes. If this occurs, you can adjust the Scan Time so that your velocity of playing
can be detected more precisely.
MASKTIME: On a kick pad, for example, if the beater bounces back and strikes the pad a second time
immediately after the intended stroke - (or,like with acoustic drums if you leave the bass drum beater
against the head) this can cause a single strike to “double trigger”. (two sounds instead of the intended
“one”) The Mask Time setting helps to prevent such problems. Once a pad has been hit, any additional
trigger signals occurring within the specified MaskTime (0–64 msec) will be ignored.
RETRIG: Like MaskTime, Retrig sets the time of the second hit. The higher the number, the more you can
do speed rolls but it can also cause false trigger and the lower the value will mae the pads less
suceptible to false trigger but you cannot do fast rolls. 127 are ideal for each pads other than the kick
pedal which the value of 30 is recommended.
CURVE: This is another fine adjustment of sensitivity other than the Trigger Sensitivity parameter,
controlling the relation between the velocity (striking force) and changes in volume (the dynamic curve)
Adjust this curve until the response feels as natural as possible. Linear is always recommended.
CURVEF: Fine adjustments of the curve form. The higher the curve value, the greater the sensitivity.
XTALK and XTALKG: When two pads are mounted on the same stand, the vibration produced by hitting
one pad may trigger the sound from another pad unintentionally. (This is called crosstalk.) The Crosstalk
setting lets you prevent such problems. Normally this won’t happen if the pads are not too close to each
other and mounted on a solid stand. Playing technique is also an influence. (It is good to leave it as it
where if there are no crosstalk problem)
Other Types of Pad Sensor like HH, HHs, Yswitch, etc. were not applicable for this Drums.
GAIN: Sets the sensitivity of each Pads. The higher the value will make the pads very sensitive to strike.
The Value of 20 is always recommended.
CHANNEL: Corresponds to MIDI Channel. The values here are already set one the Bdrum is open and
there is no need to change the channel values.
*Everytime you change the settings they are automatically saved and there are no restore factory
defaults. So make sure you write the values before you change the settings.
SOFTWARE INSTALLATION AND SETUP
Because Bdrums are Drum trigger I/O, it means the drum itself has no sound unless you plug in the USB
and open the software in your laptop of desktop. There are plenty of softwares to setup. But once it was
set, it is so easy to use.
(Tip: You can always save your settings on your VSTi host for easy access)
1. Open The Hairless-Midi and select the Serial Port of your Bdrums
2. Select MIDI out to LoopBe Internal MIDI
3. Tick the Serial <->MIDI Bridge On
It looks like that there are lots of things to do but if you are willing to learn and love to tweak, this
Drums is right for you. Software-based drums are so flexible and the possibilities are almost endless.
You just need to have willingness to learn a new level of digital music.
