INTRODUCTION

Since ancient times, people have known to use white willow tree (containing salixylic acid -
a precursor to the preparation of aspirin) to reduce pain and fight inflammation. Aspirin,
derived from silixylic acid, has become one of the most popular human drugs. However, it
was not until the 1970s that the mechanism of biochemical effects of aspirin was clarified. In
1971, John Vance, a scientist at the Royal College of Surgery, discovered that Nonsteroidal
anti-inflammatory substances (NSAIDs), including aspirin, which inhibit the formation of
prostaglandins, which are inflammatory agents, increase body temperature and transmit
pain signals to the brain. This inhibition has explained the effect of aspirin in anti-
inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic
