When talking about the weather, we usually use the verb ‘to be’, followed by

either an ​adjective​ or an ​‘-ing’ word


To be + ​adjective
It ​was / is / will be​ sunny
It ​was / is / will​ ​be​ windy
It ​was / is / will​ ​be​ foggy
It ​was / is / will​ ​be​ cloudy
It ​was / is / will​ ​be​ hot
It ​was / is / will​ ​be​ cold

To be + ​‘ing’ word
The sun ​was / is / will​ ​be​ shining
The wind ​was / is / will​ ​be​ blowing
It ​was / is / will be​ raining
It ​was / is / will be​ drizzling
It ​was / is / will be​ snowing

IRREGULARS
We can use the verbs ‘to rain’ and ‘to snow’ instead of using ‘to be raining/snowing’
