It is with great pleasure that I recommend Emily Shugars for a position within your
school district. From October to April Emily was both a student observer and a student teacher
within my classroom. As her mentor teacher I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with Mrs.
Shugars and oversee her interactions with the students, as well as her planning and teaching
practices.
As a student teacher Emily went above and beyond her call of duty. While she planned
and taught lessons, she also attended weekly Professional Learning Communities, professional
developments, and even chaperoned a school dance. Whenever an opportunity for professional
growth arose, Ms. Shugars was quick to jump on board and participate.
Ms. Shugars is also eager to learn. Whenever Emily taught a lesson she would reflect on
her practice and we would have an open discussion with how she felt things went. When offered
critique, Emily had no issues changing things and learning from her mistakes. This quality shows
the mindset of a lifelong learner, and one that would be an asset to a team.
Finally, from the moment Emily entered my classroom she began forging positive
relationships with students. She formed a bond of mutual respect, got to know them on a
personal level, and was sensitive to their lives and personal situations. This quality is incredibly
desirable in a teacher candidate, and Miss Shugars is a shining example of just that.
During my acquaintance with Miss Shugars, she has been efficient, professional, and a
fantastic example of a future teacher. She has my recommendation for any position within your
district.
