Jeff and Doctor

Jeff : Good morning, Doc

Doctor : Morning, have a seat please
Jeff : Thank you
Doctor : Let me introduce myself, Sir. I am Doctor A. May i know your name?
Jeff : My name is Jeff, Doc
Doctor : Your age?
Jeff : I am __ years old
Doctor : Where do you live?
Jeff : I live in ____
Doctor : So, what can i do to help you, Sir?
Jeff : I want to quit smoking, Doc
Doctor : May i know, how long have you been smoking?
Jeff : I have been smoking for __ years
Doctor : Have you ever tried to quit smoking before?
Jeff : Yes, but i failed, and now i want to try it again, with a proper advice from medical staff
Doctor : What therapy did you tried before?
Jeff : I didn’t use any specific therapy actually, Doc. I just tried to stop smoking by decreasing the
: frequency of smoking time by time
Doctor : Why did it fail do you think, Sir?
Jeff : I think, it failed because i didn’t plan it properly. So i kept come back to that habbit,
: especially when i need to do some boring work, thing like that
Doctor : Do you know any kind of therapy that you want to try? From a friend maybe? Before i can
: give some suggestion
Jeff : A friend of mine has this smoking habbit too, that has last for years, but he succeeded to
: quit it by using acupuncture. I dont really want to try acupuncture too actually, Doc. I will
: follow treatment you will give
Doctor : Ok. Now that i have listened to your story Sir, i have some recommendations for your
: therapy. So, there is a therapy called Nicotine Replacement Therapy. Have you ever heard
: of this therapy, Sir?
Jeff : I have not, Doc. What is that?
Doctor : NRT is basically a therapy that will help you decrease your smoking habbit by replace it with
: this therapy
Jeff : How does it work, Doc?
Doctor : So this NRT works by releasing a lower, more slowly absorbed dose of nicotine compared to
: smoking. This helps minimise or avoid withdrawal symptoms and reducing craving intensity
Jeff : So actually i consume straight nicotine to replace smoking?
Doctor : In lower and more slowly absorbed dose
Jeff : What is the difference?
Doctor : Here is the case. We want to stop your smoking habbit. But, if you do it at all of a sudden,
: your body will refuse and cause a withdrawal symptoms. This make it even harder for some
: people to stop smoking
Jeff : What is withdrawal symptoms?
Doctor : Withdrawal symptoms is symptoms that occurs when your body stop nicotine consumption
: at all of a sudden such as nausea and sweating. Nicotine actually binds to receptors in your
: brain that bound by ‘happy hormones’ previously, this make the ‘happy hormones’
: decrease and replaced by nicotine. But, when you stop consume it suddenly, those
: receptors binds to nothing and cause some effects such as what i have mentioned before
Jeff : I see. In what forms this therapy comes with, Doc? Is it an oral drug, injection, or what?
Doctor : NRT comes in some forms such as adhesive patch, chewing gum, lozenges, nose spray, and
: inhaler. The use of more than one type of NRT at a time may increase effectiveness
Jeff : What type of NRT do you recommend for me, Doc?
Doctor : Whatever you feel most comfrotable with, Sir. I will only suggest to combine two type of
: this therapy to increase the effectiveness. But, adhesive patch release nicotine in longer
: time and slower than the other type, so i think you might want to try that
Jeff : That sounds good
Doctor : What other type do you want to combine with?
Jeff : What about chewing gum, Doc. It sounds easy to do
Doctor : Good choice, it is easy, you can do it even if you feel so lazy
Jeff : Is there any side effect of this, Doc?
Doctor : Yes, there will be some side effects, such as irritation of the skin for the patch, and nausea,
: hiccups, irritation of the mouth for the chewing gum. But it will only lasts for a short
: periode of time
Jeff : Is it save, Doc?
Doctor : Saver than smoking
Jeff : How much success rate of this therapy, Doc?
Doctor : NRT increases the chance of quitting smoking by about 50% to 70%, according to data
Jeff : How often should i come here to do control, Doc?
Doctor : For beginner, we will see how your body adapt first, you can come twice a week
Jeff : Ok
Doctor : Is there any other question, Sir?
Jeff : I think no, Doc
Doctor : Alright, if you have understand, i will write down your medical prescription, you can give it
: to the pharmacist
Jeff : Yes, Doc. Thank you
