Raising my right hand excitedly, I told my teacher the answer to her question : who fought the French

and Indian war? After answering the question, my teacher gave me a word or two of praises while my
classmates gave me a disgusted look and got whispers of “She is such a nerd”. Though those words
made me feel alienated and weird but I reminded myself why? Because I have something that they do
not. I reminded myself that they wished they were in my shoes to get the straight A’s I manage to get. I
reminded myself to be grateful for who you are because you studied to get those praises while they
partied. With that said, I ignored what they were saying about me and concentrated on the teacher’s
lectures. The phrase “you are such a nerd” may not seem hurtful to some people but to people who
work hard to achieve their goals find these hurting. This is because it makes them feel that they are
some alien from another planet and are freakishly weird. Being intelligent does not meaning giving
someone a label. Everyone has their unique special power that we must embrace.
