Course Reflection

1. What connections have you had from what you’ve studied in this LW course with what
you’ve learned from other courses you have taken at SLCC or have learned before taking
this class? Make specific references to your work in this class and in other courses. How did
what you learned in other courses enhance what you learned here, and vice versa?

In this rock climbing course, I learned about healthy habits that create a lifetime of

wellness. We covered topics like physical wellness, physical activity, hydration, nutrition,

components of fitness, sleep, and stress management. In my previous health course, I learned

about all areas of health as well such as physical health, emotional health, mental health, and

social health. This related to the rock climbing course because both classes taught me how to

create healthy patterns for well-rounded fitness. This course specifically has helped me learn

skills and techniques for rock climbing that have set up a foundation for me to progress

further in this activity on my own in the future. I have also taken a nutrition course that has

helped me round out my physical fitness in conjunction with this course. All of these courses

have worked together to build a strong base for me to improve my fitness and wellbeing as a

whole.

2. Reflect on what you thought about fitness and lifelong wellness before you took this
course and how you think about it now that you have completed the course. Have any of your
assumptions or understandings changed? Why? What assignments/activities/readings were
influential in this process? How will you approach what influenced you differently in the
future?

Before taking this course, I assumed that fitness and lifelong wellness required a lot of

inconvenient and repetitive routines. When I thought of lifelong wellness, I envisioned the same
exercise routine every day for the rest of my life. However, this rock climbing course really

opened my eyes to the fun, alternative, ways to exercise. I love that there are so many outlets for

being active! Rock climbing always boosted my mood and made me feel so accomplished. It was

also a great way to improve my social health as I met new people who shared common interests.

In the course modules, I also learned that it really doesn’t take a lot to stay active. Something as

simple as a daily walk can improve health greatly. I loved learning more about the wide variety

of opportunities for fitness. Rock climbing was a blast, and I definitely plan on incorporating it

into my life for a long time.
