Skateboard
A skateboard is sport equipment used for the activity of skateboarding. It consists of a
specially designed maple wood board combined with a polyurethane coating in order to have
smoother slides and stronger durability. Most skateboards are made with 7 plies of this wood.
Many skateboards exist with exotic or alternative constructions. Traditional complete
skateboards consist of the deck (often with grip tape applied on top to enhance traction), trucks
(with urethane bushings), wheels (with sealed bearings), nuts, and bolts to fasten the truck and
wheel assembly to the bottom of the deck. Recently, electric skateboards have appeared. These
no longer require the propelling of the skateboard by means of the feet; rather an electric motor
propels the board, fed by an electric battery.
The board types depend largely upon its desired function. The two common types of
skateboards are the longboard and the short board. Longboards are type of skateboards with
longer wheelbases (over 33 inches long) and larger, softer wheels. Short boards are type of
skateboards which commonly have a rectangular shape kick tail at the back and a rounded nose
in the front. They are usually less than 34 inches long. Besides, Longboards are usually faster
and are mostly used for cruising and racing, while short boards are mostly used for doing tricks.
A skateboard can be used by simply standing on the deck while on a downward slope. By
simply standing on the deck while on a downward slope, gravity will propel the board and rider.

Aqil : “A skateboard is a small piece of wood in the shape of a surfboard with four wheels
attached to it. A single person rides the skateboard, guiding the movement with his feet.
While some use skateboards as transportation over short distances, most are used to
perform stunts.

Septi : “Do you know how to skate?”

Firman : “A little bit”
Aqil : “I can’t ride skateboard, but i’ll watch you’re play”
Septi : “Me too”
Firman : “Okay. See you tomorrow”
Septi and aqilah : “see you”

Septi : “Wow, you are really good at playing with skateboard!”

Firman : “Yeah, I train my skill here a lot”
Aqil : “Where are you buy the skateboard?”
Firman : “I make it by myself”
Aqil : “Whats kinds of part?”
Septi : “I see that Skateboards consist of three parts: the deck (the actual board), the truck
(a component usually made of metal that holds the wheels to the deck), and the wheels.

Firman : “Yes you’re right. The average skateboard deck is about 32 in (81.3 cm) long, 8 in (20.3
cm) wide, and is a little less than 0.5 in (1.3 cm) thick. The deck has a defined nose and
tail with a concave in the middle. Skateboard wheels are usually made
of polyurethane and range in width from about 1.3-1.5 in (3.3-3.8 cm). While nearly all
skateboards have similar shapes and characteristics, their dimensions vary slightly based
on use. There are skateboards built for speed, slalom, and freestyle.
