Book synopsis: Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates Jesus Christ. The story tells
us about different aspects of how people celebrate depending on activities, religion and
cultural aspects. The book shows diversity within their household because they are a
multi-racial family. Emma’s family celebrates differently from others because they celebrate
that Jesus arose from the dead while others celebrate new life that comes with spring. Her
family decorates Easter eggs with family and eats’ Easter dinner such as Kulich, which is a
Russian tradition.

Rationale: Emma’s Easter would be a great book for Pre-K and Kindergarten students. The
book discusses the importance of Easter and the traditions that run in Emma’s family
along with discussing traditions around the world and other beliefs. The multi-cultural race
among Emma’s family would introduce diversity among races. This book allows children to
be accepting of different looks with other people. Student’s can share their family traditions
and activities that they participate in on Easter Day. This detailed and colorful book about
a holiday would be an exciting read for children and increase cultural awareness.
