Dear Sam,
How are you doing? I knew that you want to spend your summer learning more about a
different culture. I had researched the topic online recently, and ran into some posts on the
pros and cons of working holiday and a language course abroad. Hope that it would be useful
for you.
Firstly, I would like to talk about the pros of working holiday. I think learning more different
culture is the main pros of working holiday. As participants may stay in the country for a long
time, which enables people to have a better understanding of the country’s culture. This
working holiday could also enable people to gain invaluable experience while holidaying and
working abroad which would help them learn more about different culture by talking to local
people and experience the daily life of the country themselves.
Secondly, I would like to talk about the cons of working holiday. As participants may stay in
the country for a long time, I think felling of loneliness is the main cons of working holiday.
Participants may miss their hometown, friend and family members during this long period of
time. Also, moving to a different country for working holiday, where language or cultural
barriers can complicate social interactions can also lead the participants to feel more lonely.
Thirdly, I would like to talk about the pros of a language course. I think going to a language
course can help you develop a deeper understanding of other cultures. During a language
course, you are not only required to learn the language but also learning the culture of a
country, for example how to greet the locals properly which may help you to develop a greater
awareness and deeper understanding of other cultures and a more positive interaction with
people from other nations.
Lastly, I would like to talk about the cons of a language course abroad. To me, I think going to
a language course abroad is a waste of money. The cheapest language course abroad I found
on the internet is a about $12,000 per month which I think it is not worth it, I would rather
learn it myself by borrowing books from the library or use language learning apps. The
technology is getting more developed now, it’s easy for us to learn things by using the internet.
Why not choosing e-learning and save the money which should be spent on stuffs that provide
values ?
Here are some thoughts about the pros and cons of a working holiday and a language course
