Our topic tonight, ―Modern Magic, Miracles and the Occult.‖ Slide

Were tending sheep in a place called the Cova da Ira near the city of Fatima, Slide
Portugal. 3

When suddenly they saw a flash of lightening, and soon… Slide

A beautiful, shining woman appeared near the tree. The children were terrified, but Slide
the shining woman said, ―Do not be afraid of me. I am from heaven.‖ Lucia asked 5
the woman what she wanted. ―The woman then asked her and her friends to come
back to the same place the thirteenth day of each month for the next six months.
Lucia asked the children if they would offer themselves to God to endure all the
sufferings He might wish to bring upon them in reparations for the countless sins by
which He was offended, as well as for the conversion of sinners. By the way
reparation is payment for sins.
Question, who paid penalty for sin? Jesus. The Bible tells us in 1 John 2:2… Jesus Slide
is paid for our sins completely through His death on the Cross. But this woman 6
asked the children if they will help pay for the sins of the world. The children said
they would be willing. ―Then,‖ said the shining woman, ―You will have much to
suffer, but the grace of God will be your strength and comfort.‖
Then the children saw rays of light proceeding from her hand. The shining woman Slide
concluded her visit by admonishing the children to say rosary every day to earn 7
world peace and to hasten the end of World War I. Then she disappeared.

The next month, the children returned along with a few curious adults. After Slide
waiting for some time, suddenly she pointed to the sky and said, ―look here comes 8
the shining lady.‖

Then the bows of the oak tree bent down even though no human hand was pushing Slide
them down. After the shining woman had disappeared, the adults were sure that the 9
children had been conversing with none other than the Virgin Mary. As you can
imagine, the word spread like wildfire. The next month, July on the 13 day, 5000
people went out to the Cova da Ira to see the shining woman. This time the woman
shared a secret with the three children which she told them not to tell to anyone.
Her secret was called the Secret of Fatima. It‘s not a secret anymore, by the way.
She promised that on October 13 of that year, 1917, she would work a miracle Slide
whereby all might see and believe. However, before we look at the miracle let‘s go 10
to the Bible and establish some facts about modern magic, miracles, and the occult.

Today, we are seeing a flood of supernatural events—miracles, miraculous healings, Slide

visions, apparitions of Mary, and other saints, and many other supernatural 11
phenomena. what do all these signs and miracles mean, and where are they
coming from?

Could it be that the devil is masquerading in some of the apparitions of Mary and Slide
other saints? Let‘s answer these questions. Are all miracles from God, or can the 12
devil also work miracles? Is all healing from God, or can the devil also heal?
We‘re going to find out tonight that that the devil can also work miracles.

Two supernatural powers are at work in our world today: God’s power and the Slide
devil’s power. Both powers are miracle working. God works miracles, but so does 13
Satan. God heals people, but so does the devil. God gives visions, and so does the
devil. The devil gave Christ a vision of all the kingdoms of the world on the
mountain top—you might remember that from Matthew 4. Since he gave Christ a
vision, we know he can give visions to anyone.
And the question of course is Which of these two forces is behind the flood of Slide
miracles, apparitions, and visions of today? We‘re going to find out tonight which 14
of these two forces is behind the flood of miracles and apparitions we‘re seeing
today.

Another question, how can we know whether a miracle is from God or the devil? Slide
We‘re going to see tonight that there are certain biblical tests we can use to help us 15
know whether a miracle is from God or the devil.

First of all, are there counterfeit gifts of the spirit? Yes. 2 Pet. 2:1 says… Prophets Slide
and teachers were gifts given to the church, but here we have counterfeits of those 16
gifts. False prophets and false teachers. Actually, the devil has a counterfeit for
every true gift of the Sprit.

False prophets, false teachers, false healings, false miracles, false tongues, and Slide
more. There is a huge counterfeit on this last one—the gift of tongues. Do these 17
counterfeits look false? For example, suppose I was to develop a counterfeit 1000
piso bill. To make my counterfeit effective, I have to make it look as much as
possible like the what? Like the real 1000 piso bill. The more it looks like the
real, the more effectively it can deceive people.
Don‘t miss this: the devil is master counterfeiter. He‘s had 6000 years to practice. Slide
And it‘s impossible with your human senses to tell whether or not the miracle is 18
from God or the devil. So closely will counterfeit resemble genuine, that the only
way you will know the true from the false is by what book?

That‘s right. by the Bible. Christ warns us to beware of counterfeits. Let‘s go Slide
read that warning from Matt. 7. When you get there put a marker there; because 19
we‘re going to come back to Matt. 7 later tonight. Matt. 7:15… The false
prophets come in sheep‘s cloths.

In the New Testament, a sheep is a follower of Jesus Christ. And these false Slide
prophets come looking like sheep. 20

Now this wolf didn‘t hide himself too well. The false prophets will hide much Slide *

better than that. In other words they look like Christians. They profess to follow 21
Jesus. They‘re inside the fold, or the church. But behind the Christian covering
they‘re hiding under is the spirit of the wolf—Satan. I personally believe that many
of them don‘t even know the spirit controlling them. They will believe themselves
to be Spirit-filled Christians.
Multitudes will be deceived by the miracles of these miracles. Slide

Why will these false prophets deceive so many? Let‘s read the answer from Matt. Slide
24:24… 23

[Matt. 24:24]… They‘re working great signs and wonders, miracles. Many people Slide
think that all miracles are from God. That‘s one of Satan‘s deceptions. 24

HOW CAN WE KNOW whether a miracle is from God or devil? How can we Slide
know whether a healing or a vision is from God or devil? 25

The Bible gives us some tests. We find both of them in Isa. 8:20. We‘re going to Slide
mark down two tests tonight. There are more, but we‘ll mark down just two. 26
Reading from Isa. 8:20… To the law (the Torah, or the ten commandments), and
the testimony (the rest of Bible) if they don‘t speak in harmony with this word,
there‘s no light in them. If they have no light, what spirit do they have? The
spirit of the wolf, or Satan.
So if they the preachers, if they the healers, those who claim to have God’s Slide
power, don’t follow the teachings of God’s word, then there is no light in them. 27
Let‘s start with the testimony—or Bible. That‘s a broad test. There are many Bible
doctrines we can use with which to test miracle workers.

One example is the state of man in death. What do the faith healers teach about the Slide
state of man in death? Do they believe the dead live on? Do they believe the soul is 28
immortal or that one can speak to the dead?

Here again we have what the Bible teaches about state of man in death. Let‘s review Slide
them. The Bible teaches that (1) The Dead Are Asleep, (2) The Dead Are in the 29
Grave, (3) The Dead Do Not Know Anything, and (4) Dead Do Not Return to
Their Homes. That‘s what the Bible teaches about the state of man in death. Based
on these Biblical teachings, let me ask you,
How many people are burning in hell tonight? Absolutely Zero. Slide

Christ teaches in Matt. 13:37-50 that hellfire will burn at the end of the world. We Slide
can add to our list… 31

Hell is not burning now! Someone is probably saying, ―Well, what about the Slide
visions of hell?‖ Have you heard of anyone who had a vision of hell fire? Who is 32
giving those miracles? Satan, because Jesus says that hell fire is NOT burning
now. So number (1) The dead are asleep, (2) the dead are in the grave, (3) the
dead do not know anything, (4) the Dead do not return to their homes, and
(5) Hellfire is NOT burning now. We‘ll find out later while we‘ve reestablished Slide
these points. One thing is certain, visions of hellfire are not being given by God. 33
The being who claims to be Christ and gives people tours of hell is the devil or one
of his demons masquerading as Christ.

There are many Biblical teachings we can test people with. Those were just a few Slide
of the main ones. Another test we can use we also find in Isa. 8:20: to the law, or 34
the ten commandments. What do the faith healers, or visionaries teach about
God‘s law? Do they say we should keep God‘s law? Do they obey God‘s law? If
not, they don‘t have the light of truth in them.

If the faith healer is not teaching other people to obey the Ten Commandments, then Slide
they do not have the light of truth in them. 35

Let me ask you my dumb question, how many commandments are in the ten Slide
commandments? Almost every church in this city thinks you should keep nine 36
Commandments, but how many are there? There are ten.

And the Bible says in James 2:10… We must test the faith healers by God‘s law. Is Slide
the faith healer is not keeping ALL Ten Commandments, including the 37
Sabbath, if he is willfully breaking one of the Ten Commandments; then he IS
NOT using God’s power. God‘s workers will keep His law out of love for Him.

Now don‘t miss this: any person who is living in willful disobedience to God’s law Slide
is not using God’s power! Here‘s a text to show that. Acts 5:32 – ―And we are His 38
witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to
them that obey Him.‖ The Bible teaches that the Holy Spirit is only given to those
who obey God. A person who willfully disobeys God does not have God‘s power.
They may have power, but the power is not from God.

That‘s why we must test them by God‘s law. God brings us over and over back to Slide
his law as a test. You see, from the beginning the devil‘s primary purpose has been 40
to fight against God‘s law—which is the transcription of His eternal character.
Obedience to God’s law is the central issue of the Great Controversy. The devil
hates God‘s law; and there are Christians that hate God‘s law too—especially when
you start talking about the Sabbath commandment.
Here again are the two tests, (1) the law, and (2) the rest of scriptures. If the Slide
miracle worker doesn‘t pass those two tests, he is not speaking for God. 41

Let‘s answer this question, can the devil work miracles? Well, let‘s see what the Slide Can the
devil work

We have these three unclean spirit like frogs coming out of the mouth of the Slide
dragon, the beast, and the false prophet. 45

Why does it say they are like frogs? A frog catches his prey with his what? With Slide
his tongue. 46

There is a tongue-speaking movement in most of the Christian churches of the land Slide *

today… 47

Note… The Christian churches of today are being taken over by the frogs! Slide *

But it says they come out of the mouth of the dragon—a symbol of paganism and Slide
Satan. There‘s a tongue speaking, miracle-working movement in the pagan 49
religions of the world today, such as Buddhism, Satanism, and others. But the frogs
also come out of the mouth of the beast—or the Church of Rome. There‘s a
tongue speaking, miracle-working movement in the Roman Catholic Church today.
The frogs also come out of the mouth of the false prophet. That is Protestantism Slide
with all its false prophecies. There is a problem when paganism, Catholicism, and 50
Protestantism all speak in tongues. There is a spirit working through these
movements. It‘s not the Holy Spirit either. Are any of these three frogs teaching
people to obey God‘s law?
Are those genuine miracles? Yes. Satan has supernatural power. He can make Slide *

people sick. Question, who made Job sick? Have you read the story of Job? Job 51
2:7 plainly shows that Satan made Job sick. Was that a fake sickness? No! It was
a real sickness. Now, generally God protects his people from Satan; Job was an
exception. However, if a person is not completely surrendered to God, the devil
might try to take control and make people sick. Then they go to a faith healer, he
prayers over them, they fall over, and they get healed.
People say, ―Oh, this is God‘s power.‖ But we have to test the beliefs of faith Slide *

healer to see if they are in harmony with the Bible. If they don‘t harmonize with the 52
Bible, I know the faith healer is NOT using God‘s power. Many people take
miracles as an excuse not to obey God. If devil can work miracle to keep someone
in commandment-breaking church, do you think he would do it? Absolutely.

It‘s happening. What are some of the miracles that will be wrought at the end time? Slide

How was world deceived? By the miracles that Satan does. One of the miracle is Slide
bringing fire down from heaven. Where else do we read about fire coming down 55
from heaven?

Acts 2, on the Day of Pentecost. And that was the genuine fire symbolizing Holy Slide
Spirit. 56

Rev. 13:13 speaks about the counterfeit fire from heaven. That‘s a counterfeit to Slide
the genuine fire in Acts 2. Today, we‘re seeing the counterfeit gift of the spirit, 57
counterfeit revival, counterfeit tongues, counterfeit miracles, etc. There is a
spiritual revival in the Christian churches of the world today. There‘s a spirit
being poured out. What‘s interesting is that the ―spirit‖ being poured out upon the
Christian world is not teaching Christians to obey God—to keep the Sabbath, or to
live holy lives, etc.
Even more interesting, the ―spirit‖ is being poured out on the commandment- Slide
breaking churches. So either those things are not important to God anymore, or it is 58
a huge outpouring of a counterfeit Spirit. This is nothing other than counterfeit fire.

This is a video clip of counterfeit fire—the counterfeit gift of the spirit and of Slide

You have just seen an example of counterfeit fire. That‘s not the Holy Spirit Slide *

working there. When people fall like that on the ground and writhe, that‘s demon 60
possession. Benny Hen doesn‘t teach people to keep the Sabbath. More than that,
he communicates with the spirits of the dead, which the Bible condemns. So we
know the power is not the power of God.
The Bible says the world will be deceived by miracles at the end of time. How Slide
shall we test the miracles? 61

By the miracles they do, or by the Bible? What do you think? The Bible. Many Slide *

Christians have turned from the Bible as the test of truth and make tongues, 62
miracles, or emotions the test of truth. That‘s dangerous. The devil can perform
counterfeit miracles, if he can confirm people in unbelief by so doing.

Question, Is it possible for someone to think they’re using God’s power, and Slide
actually be using the power of the devil? We‘re going to read Matt. 7:20-23. 63
We‘ll read one of the most shocking things Christ ever said. Mark down this
passage. Verse 20…

[verses 20, 21]… By the way, one of those fruits is obedience to God. Reading Slide
on… These would have to be Christians—they call Jesus their Lord. And Christ 64
says not everyone that says, ―Lord, Lord,‖ will be saved. Verse 22…

―many will say to me…‖ Question, Slide

Is ―many‖ the minority or majority? The majority. These Christians prophesied Slide *

in Jesus‘ name—that‘s one of the gifts of the spirits. These Christians say, ―Lord, 66
we prophesied in Your name, we spoke in tongues in Your name, we healed in Your
name, we did revival seminars in Your name, we cast out devils in your name!
Evidently, these people were not using the power of Jesus Christ. By the way, does
it take supernatural power to cast out devils? It sure does. You can‘t cast out
devils in your own strength. Apparently, these professed Christians were actually
using the devil‘s power and did not even know it.
I heard of a man who had been attending a charismatic church where they spoke in Slide *

tongues and cast out devils. After attending some time, some of the church 67
members said he needed to be delivered from demons. Well, he didn‘t know that he
had any devils, but he finally agreed to allow them to deliver him from the demons.
So they took him aside and began to pray over him with their hands upon him.
Suddenly he lost his strength and fell right in the middle of them.
Then the devils started going out of him. Each devil sounded like gun shot. Then a Slide *

great a great fire went out of him. I don‘t know if it was the biggest devil or what. 68
And as the Christians kept praying over him, the holy anointing from God came
down and he claimed that he was filled with the spirit. After that, the man spoke in
tongues.
By the way, that man didn‘t keep the Sabbath. In fact, he said the Holy Spirit said Slide *

he didn‘t need to keep the Sabbath day. You can know right away that was not the 69
Holy Spirit‘s voice. That was Satan‘s voice. Don‘t miss this, that man had gone
to a church, not a séance—a church—to be delivered from the devils. Instead
of being delivered from devils, he had become demon possessed.

The devil doesn‘t cast out the devil does he? No. What is called deliverance from Slide *

demons actually turns out to be demon possession or demons manifesting 70

themselves in a new way. Let‘s finish the passage now, verse 23…

If Jesus never knew them, whose power were they using? Slide

There‘s only one other kind of supernatural power; that‘s the devil’s power. Many Slide *

at end-time will be using the power of the devil. 72

The test is to do God’s Will. What is God‘s will? God’s law written in the Slide
heart—in other words we love obeying God Keeping the entire law. 74

God has given us these tests: (1) the law, and (2) the ten commandments. Now Slide
that we‘ve laid down that biblical foundation... 75

Let‘s return to story of Fatima. We left of July 13, 1917. On that date shining Slide
woman who claimed to be Mary gave Lucia a vision of hell. 76

It says, ―You have seen hell where the souls of poor sinners go. To save them, God Slide
wants to establish devotion to my immaculate heart throughout the world.‖ Does 77
this agree with teachings of the Bible? Not at All. You can see the power here at
work behind the scenes.

Five thousand people saw it. It was recorded in the secular newspapers. Slide

So the next month, August 13, 15,000 people when out to the Cova Da Ira to see Slide
the shining Lady. This time they saw a globe of light cross the heavens from the 79
east and settle over the oak tree.

On September 13, 1917 enthusiasm was so high that 30,000 people went out to the Slide
Cova da Ira. Again they saw the globe of light cross the heavens and settle in the 80
oak tree. But this time they also saw shining pedals like snowflakes fall on ground.
And the shining woman promised that the next month she would work her miracle.

It was pouring down rain on September 13, 1917. About 75,000 people went out to Slide
see the miracle. After the woman had conversed with the children, she stretched out 81
her hands toward the sun so people could look at it without hurting their eyes.

Rays of light of all different colours began radiating from the sun. Slide

Then the sun turned into silver disc and colours began radiating out of sun in all Slide
directions. Next, the sun began to turn on its axis like a wheel. 83

Then it started jumping back and forth in the sky. Slide

Finally, it appeared to break loose and fall to earth. The people thought sun would Slide
collide with the earth. 85

If you think this sound crazy, remember 75,000 people saw this miracle. This is a Slide
photo of the crowd that witnessed the miracle. The people thought they were going 86
to be destroyed, so they began to pray for the Virgin to save them. Then, as if in
answer to their prayers, the miracle suddenly ended.

The sun went back to its place in the sky, the woman disappeared, and the clouds Slide
rolled away. The people discovered that their clothes which were soaked a moment 87
before were completely dry; so was the ground which had been covered with about
ten centimeters of water on it. It was an undeniable miracle. Who did such a
miracle?

To answer that, let‘s look at some of the doctrines of Mary and other apparitions. Slide
Here‘s one. Prayer and sacrifices for dead. 88

This is a statement from the shining woman who claims to be Mary, ―Pray a great Slide
deal and make sacrifices for sinners, for many souls go to hell for not having 89
someone to pray and make sacrifices for them.‖

Who made the sacrifice for sin? Jesus. Was His sacrifice sufficient? Oh yes. But Slide
not according to the shining being who claims to be Mary. 90

Another doctrine of Fatima and other Marian apparitions, (2) prayer for souls in Slide
purgatory. 91

Here‘s a statement from the shining woman who claims to be Mary. Where is Slide
purgatory in Bible? It’s not in the Bible. 92

Purgatory is a fabrication by the father of lies, the devil. Christ said the dead go to Slide
the grave to wait there until the resurrection. 93

Another doctrine of Fatima and other Marian Apparitions. (3) Communication Slide
with the dead. 94

An interesting book says, ―Another troubling aspect of Medjugorje is that some of Slide
the visionaries have seen, talked to, and even touched people who have died.‖ 95

―In Ivanka‘s case, she embraced and kissed her dead mother on several occasions. Slide
During an interview, Ivanka described these encounters with her mother: 96

―‗I‘ve seen my mother three times since she died! . . . My favorite time was the last Slide
time she was with Blessed Mother [the Virgin Mary]. 97

―My mother came over to me. She put her arms around me and kissed me. She Slide
said, ‗Oh, Ivanka, I am so proud of you.‘‖ Who hugged Ivanka? We‘ll come back 98
to that in a moment. Reading on…

―This sounds very similar to the occultic practice of necromancy [talking to the Slide
dead], a practice that the Bible explicitly condemns (Deut. 18:10-12; Isa. 8:19; 1 99
Chron. 10:13,14).‖

The Bible says about the dead, in Job 7:10 – ―He shall return no more to his Slide
house…‖ Then again in Job 16:22 – ―I shall go the way whence I shall not 100
return.‖

The Bible says in Eccl. 9:5, this is a text with which we are familiar, ―For living Slide
know they shall die: but dead know not anything?‖ So who hugged Ivanka? 101

Here‘s the answer, ―For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles.‖ That was a Slide
demon who hugged Ivanka. 102

You can see why we must test everything by the Bible and the law of God. Those Slide
are our two tests. 103

Reading again from same book, ―Because of the unbiblical nature of Marian Slide
apparitions, if the cause is supernatural in origin then we can only be dealing with 104
the demonic, not with God.

―I realize that this line of reasoning will be offensive to many Catholics; Slide
nonetheless, I believe it is a necessary theological inference.‖ I have to agree with 105
their conclusion since it agrees with the Bible.

The Bible says in Rev. 18:2 that Babylon has become habitation of devils. In fact, Slide
all churches breaking God‘s commandments are the habitation of devils. 106

God says to His own people, ―Come out of her my people.‖ Because God doesn‘t Slide
want us to go where demons are working, He mercifully calls us to come out of 107
Babylon and follow truth. To the law—the Ten Commandments—and the
Testimony—the rest of the Bible—if they don‘t speak in harmony with God word,
there is no light in them.
Who is behind the apparitions and miracles of Mary. Not God or Mary. Slide

Here‘s the biblical answer, ―For they are the spirits of DEVILS, working miracles.‖ Slide
The spirits of Devils working miracles. 109

Well question, is Mary in heaven or in the grave? There is no evidence anywhere Slide
in the Bible that Mary went to Heaven. When she died, she went to the grave to 110
wait for the resurrection when Jesus comes back. This might be shocking for some
of us. Remember, I said that tonight would be shocking topic.

Notice this very interesting text, 2 Cor. 11:14, ―And no marvel; for Satan himself is Slide
transformed into an angel of light.‖ You see, the devil has always wanted to be 111
worshiped. He knows he won‘t be worshiped if he appears as a red goat with horns
and a pitchfork in his hand.

But if he could appear as a shining woman; a woman revered by most of the worlds Slide
religions, he knows he can get the worship he desires. The Roman Catholic 112
Church, the world‘s largest Christian church, venerates Mary. Some Catholics
worship Mary. The Orthodox Church, one of the next largest Christian churches,
venerate and worship Mary. Muslims venerate Mary as the mother of the prophet
Jesus. Hindus accept her as one of their many gods. And, unfortunately, now
many Protestants are starting to revere her as well.
That shining woman appearing in many places is none other than the angel of light Slide
in 2 Cor. 14:11… This shining woman said that if necessary she will appear in 113
every home to convince people she exists and that they should worship her. That
deception is so strong that it will almost deceive the elect. There is only one way to
keep from being deceived…
God’s Word. You must base your beliefs upon the word of God. Slide

To the (1) Law—the Ten Commandments, and the (2) Testimony—the rest of the Slide
Bible, if they don‘t speak according to this Word there is no light in them. By the 115
way, you don‘t have to fear the devil‘s power. The Bible says, ―Greater is He in you
than He that is in the world.‖ If you surrender your life to Jesus and base your faith
on the Bible, you don‘t have to fear the devil‘s deceptions.
Let‘s review what the Bible teaches about death. (1) The Dead Are Asleep, (2) The Slide
Dead Are in the Grave, (3) The Dead Know Not Anything, (4) The Dead Do Not 116
Return to Their Homes, and (5) Hellfire Is Not Burning Now! The shining being
claiming to be Mary teaches the exact opposite!

You have to choose to believe the Bible, or you will ultimately be deceived by the Slide
lying wonders of Satan. The Bible says in John 8:32, ―Ye shall know the truth, and 117
the truth shall make you free.‖ Sometimes the truth hurts, but the truth will free you
from deception, and the bondage of sin.

For some of you this might be a shocking topic. But would you like to ask christ to Slide
help you base your faith on his word? Do you want to ask Jesus to help you base 118
