In February 2014, he, the chairman and chief executive officer of Canada's third largest law firm

(Gowlings LLP), had announced that he was considering options to make the company global. As
he hoped to create a permanent platform for international expansion as his company was
ranked as the best legal advisor based on the volume of deals in Canadian mergers and
acquisitions in 2012 and 2013, and thus Gowlings was equipped to build on these qualities and
move to the next level in determining its position as a company International law.

The expansion announced will be based on three aspects: a new global location, a new global
partner, and a new organizational structure. Each point was overlapping, each with its own
administrative problems. Gowlings has already established offices in three locations outside
Canada: Moscow, London, and Beijing.

Recommendations:

1- We recommended that Gowlings should open a new position in UK since there was
increasing demand from clients for higher transparency and more value for the price.
Also, the market was conducive for entry because the United Kingdom was open to the
entry of overseas legal firms. It also allowed non-lawyers to invest in legal businesses
and provided licenses for what it called alternative business structures for legal firms.

2- We recommend the company to merge with companies looking for the development of
services provided to customers more than their search for companies looking for profit.

3- We recommended that when Gowlings merges with other company, the two companies
should retain their identity. To ensure profits are generated locally and kept locally
(while companies share common costs).
