(5) Question number 13 to 19 are also short type questions. Each question carries 3 marks.
(6) Question number 20 to 22 are long answer type question. Each question carries 5 marks.
(7) Question number 23 to 27are Multiple Choice Questions. Each question carries 1 mark.
SECTION -A
Q1. What is cutting of mature plants called?

Ans1- Harvesting.

Q2. What is the term given to lowest temperature at which a substance burns.

Ans2 – Ignition temperature

Q3. Define Deforestation.

Ans3- Clearing of forests /trees and using the land for other purposes.

Ans6 – Carbonisation is the Slow process of Formation of coal from dead vegetation,under

Ans9 – I) -First law states that the incident ray, the normal and the reflected ray ,all lie in

Q10.What is an earthquake and how is it measured?

Ans10- Earthquake is sudden shaking or trembling of the earth which lasts for a very short
time.

It is caused by disturbance deep inside the earth’s crust. It can cause damage to life and
property.;

It is measured by an instrument called seismograph/. The power of its magnitude is expressed


on Richter scale.

Q11.What is lightning conductor? How does it work?

Ans11- Lightening conductor is a safety device which protects the buildings from the effects
of lightning.

When lightning strikes a building, its tall metallic rod provides an easy route for the transfer
of electric charge to the underground. The charges pass through the conductor and goes into
the underground plate.

Q12. Differentiate between zygote and foetus.

Ans 12- zygote-It is unicellular, no body parts formed, formed in the oviduct after
fertilisation

Foetus- It is multi cellular; body parts can be identified; formed in the uterus from
embryo.

Q13.Explain the process of formation of petroleum.

Ans13- Millions of years ago ,dead microscopic organisms living in the sea got settled at
the bottom of the sea and got covered with sand and clay .Under high pressure and temp. ,
absence of air, slowly got converted into petroleum over a period of millions of years.

Q14.What is meant by combustion? Write any two conditions necessary for combustion?

Ans14- Burning of fuel in the presence of oxygen to give off heat and light is called
combustion.

Q21. Define asexual reproduction. Name two methods of asexual reproduction .Explain any
one and draw the diagram.

.Ans21- Asexual reproduction is that in which new generation is produced from a single
parent withoutfertilisation.

Two methods of asexual reproduction are

1 Budding in hydra

2. Binary fission in amoeba

Amoeba is a single-celled organisms. It begins the process of reproduction by the division


of its nucleus into two nuclei. This is followed by division of its body into two, each part
receiving a nucleus. Finally, two amoebae are produced from one parent amoeba .This
type of asexual reproduction is called binary fission.

Ans22- Zoo- A man made confined area where animals are kept; animals not free to move in
their natural habitat.

Sanctuary – a huge protected natural habitat for animals where animals are free to move.

(b)Deforestation leads to less transpiration and therefore lesscloud formation resulting in low
rainfall.
