Percona + Microsoft: Partnering for Performance

Percona and Microsoft have formed a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of open-source
databases by leveraging Percona’s consulting offerings alongside Microsoft Azure.

With the aim of delivering services, training, and support to end-customers and partners of Azure
Databases for MySQL, MariaDB, and PostgreSQL and related Microsoft Azure Services, this partnership
provides customers an easier onboarding experience when moving to Microsoft Azure, while improving
user experience.

Percona offers the following migration assessment engagements to customers considering a migration
from Oracle, MySQL, or PostgreSQL to a Microsoft Azure Database for MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or
to the Azure Compute platform:

1-Day Proof of Concept

This engagement delivers a high-level overview of the work involved to migrate the customer to
the desired target database. A time estimate is included indicating how long it will take to conduct
the additional assessment needed to plan the actual migration. This is ideal for users in the early
stage of considering a migration, and are interested in learning more about the planning effort
required.
 

5, 10, or 15-Day Targeted Migration Assessment

For customers interested in migrating to a Microsoft Azure Database product, this engagement
determines the time and effort required to complete the migration. This is suitable for people
considering a move to an open-source database running on Microsoft Azure Compute platform.

Focus is on a targeted set of schemas, as de ned by the customer, and determines the amount of
time and the types of changes that are required to successfully complete the migration. It does not
include the actual migration.
This engagement is delivered as a written report, broken out into three key sections:
 

Application Assessment and Review

Identi cation of source database type(s) and review of dependencies between the
application and the database.

Schema Assessment and Review

Review and categorization of the existing schemas to determine the effort and modi cations
required to move to the target database.

Recommendations
Time estimate for completing the migration, determination of the feasibility of migration and
expected incurred costs, along with nal key recommendations.
 

Performance Tuning
A 4-day engagement to explore speci c issues experienced when using Microsoft Azure Database
for MySQL, MariaDB, or PostgreSQL. The delivered report details the issues found and gives a
proposed resolution for each.
 

Cloud Optimization
A 5-day engagement designed to validate an existing Microsoft Azure Database for MySQL,
MariaDB, or PostgreSQL and to provide optimization recommendations.
