GENEVA COLLEGE
DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
April 13, 2020
‘To Whom It May Concer:
Itis with the most pleasure and honor that I write this letter of reference for Jenna Mareisz. Jenna was an intern in
the Special Education Internship Program at Geneva College during the spring semester of 2019. I served as a
college professor in which Jenna was a student in two of my courses; Teaching Reading tothe Exceptional Child
and Academic Skill Intervention for Exceptional Children.
The course, Teaching Reading to the Exceptional Child, requires my students to conduct an in-depth case study to
demonstrate proficiency in assessing and analyzing a student who struggles with reading, The work and effort Jenna
put forth into her case study was outstanding and deserved special recognition for a job well done. She not only
grasped a thorough understanding of informal diagnostic assessments but was able to analyze the data to expertly
‘guide her instruction. She designed reading intervention lessons around research-based strategies and successfully
‘taught these lessons to the student she selected for her case study in an exemplary manner while utilizing various
supporting scaffolds to meet the student’s reading needs,
|In Academie Skill Intervention for Exceptional Children, students are exposed to a variety of strategies, techniques,
and theories critical to teaching students with disabilities in the classroom. Part of the course requirement i to
research and present to the class various strategies beneficial to students with high and low incidence disabilities
Jenna's strategy presentations were exceptional. It was obvious she spent a great deal of time to researching various
strategies benefitting students with special needs. Furthermore, Jenna's field experiences during her special
‘education intemship included work in a 7.10! grade autism support classroom at The School at MeGuire which is.
an alternative school and she worked in a 3 and 4* grade learning support setting at Todd Lane Elementary School
Her work in both field settings was stellar. She built collaborative relationships with the students, cooperating
teachers, and paraprofessionals. She diligently planned and taught lessons tailored to student needs. Overall, I was
‘most impressed with Jenna’s planning, organization, and understanding of differentiated instruction. Without a
doubt, Jenna demonstrated knowledge and skill expected of a special educator.
In closing, I highly recommend Jenna Mareisz for any teaching position she is pursuing. With utmost confidence, I
know she will be a dedicated teacher to any school system fortunate enough to procure her services.
Sincerely,
