Reflection:

My content and foundational knowledge was assessed in my PED 201 Motor

Development lab which reflects component 1.e. In this lab I had the opportunity to work
with children grades K-5 at Lee Avenue Elementary School. During this experience I
taught students a variety of motor skills such as running, jumping, throwing, catching,
and many more. I was able to touch upon all of the locomotor, manipulative, and
non-locomotor skills with the students.

This Motor Development lab relates to component 1.e in the following manner.
After teaching the different skills and their components I was able to assess some of the
students using a checklist and rubric. These assessments allowed me to see where
various students strived or needed help performing the skill at hand. I broke down the
skills into smaller pieces so the students could understand them easier and practice one
part at a time. This helped the students learn each part and then put it all together to
perform the skill at a more competent rate. By the end of my field experience I was able
to look back and see how my teaching helped improve the different students. After
comparing pre-test and post-test scores I saw that the students improved significantly
with the skills.

Being able to apply the motor development theory and various principles is
important because it is the foundation of your teaching. Every teacher must have a good
understanding of these skills in order to be successful in the classroom.
