A Reflection on a Life of Words

Throughout my life I've always had a passion for the written word. Be it wandering

around libraries or old bookstores, reading articles online, or even trying my hand at writing.

Spoken words have meaning in everyday life, like the conversations we have and descriptions of

things around us. Written word can be so much more than that, be it beautifly written poetry,

stories that ping the imagination, or even tales of past events. Written word has been a big

influence in my short life and I hope to carry that passion with me through my years. The written

word has always appealed to me, from being young and forming a passion of reading and

writing, to today where I am learning my stregnths and weaknesses, to tomorrow where I can

apply skills learned from this course.

When I was a charming, handsome, young boy I discovered something that changed my

life so much I would never be without it again. I was introduced to reading and writing by my

father, who would teach me to read and write at the dinner table at night. Those first few years of

my life formed a passion that would drive me to discover new worlds and adventure, and to tell

my own stories. In my days as a schoolkid I always did well and in doing so enjoyed to perks of

being able to work in the libray at school. I would wander around all day reading stories of

chivarlous knights, faraway places, and even biographies of peole of the past. I learned to write

my own stories of dinosaurs and monsters and loved to process.

Now as a returning community college student I am learning more about myself and my

writing. I am learning to identify and improve on the way I write. I’ve had some problems during

the course but I feel I am able to identify and target those weaknesses to overcome them better.

One of the areas I need to improve is idenitifing the audience im trying to reach and learning to

speak more to them. Ive learned to better structure my papers but I feel that there is still room to

improve on it.

In the future I hope to be able to apply the skills I've learned from the course into as

many parts of my life as possible. I feel as if I have been able to grow and improve during the

short time I've been in the course. Collaborating with the other students in the classroom has

been a great experience. It’s been great being able to speak and learn about other people and thier

ideas. One of the most important skills I think that I've learned and can take with me in the future

is that no matter how big or small the task it all starts with the first step. Im certain that I'll be

able to use the skills ive gained from writing in the future.

Written words have always appealed to me. I’ve found that there’s not much better in life

than reading and writing. I’ve grown up reading stories and writing my own tales, and this past

semester at school has shown me my strengths and weaknesses in writing and also taught me

more skills to use in the future. With the great experiences I've had with reading and writing in

the past, the future is sure to be just as bright.
