Program Notes

The theme from Disney’s “The Incredibles” features the cool 60’s era vibe that perfectly sets the mood
for this secret agent – superhero hybrid movie. Featuring cool jazz licks and an energetic opening,
Michael Giacchino’s music is the perfect opening to start our concert off.

Adam Boll’s “The Realm of Superheroes” is a piece set in the style of current superhero themes. The
dark and ominous sounds are broken up by the bright and triumphant answers of the brass section. This
piece would sure fit well in any new movie to hit the theaters today!

Pop singer Adele has achieved enormous success in her relatively short career. It was no surprise that
she was offered the opportunity to perform the opening theme of the recent James Bond film “Skyfall”.
With a slow and sad tempo, this arrangement by Jay Bocook emphasizes the dark and brooding film in
which James Bond must go back to his beginning to save the day once again.

The character of Austin Powers was created as a spoof on the James Bond, but the popularity of the first
movie led to two sequels. However it isn’t often that a character’s theme becomes just as popular as the
character, as is the case here with the “Soul Bossa Nova”. Featuring a cool blues melody against a Latin
groove, this quirky piece is yet another example of the perfect song fitting the perfect character.

Our last selection is a medley of music from the movie “Superman Returns”, featuring music by the
iconic composer John Williams. Considered by some as the greatest superhero of all time, it is fitting that
we conclude our concert with music for the “Man of Steel”. Selections in this piece are “Superman
Theme”, “Can You Read My Mind”, “Memories”, and “Rough Flight”.
