The intake camshaft can be lentitied by the reference lobe for the Ccamshatt position sensor, therefore, there 's no need to mark the camshafts (see ‘strations) 42 Obtain siteen small, clean containers, and number them 1 t0 16. Using a rubber ‘sucker, witharaw each bucket tappet in turn ang place them in the containers. Do nat interchange the bucket tappets as they are of itfernt sizes: the shim is part of the bucket tappet (see illustrations). Ditferent sizes of bucket tappets are avaliable inthe event of wear on the valves or repair on the cylinder head assembly. (or new evlnder head wll be require, 45 Visually examine the camshaft lobes for score marks, pitting, galing (wear due to rubbing) and evidence of averneating (blue, discoloured areas), Look for faking away of tne hardened surface layer of each lobe (see iustration). any such signs are evident, renew the component concerned, 16 Examine the camshaft bearing journals land the cylinder head bearing surfaces for signs Of obvious swear of piting. If any such signs are evident, renew the component concerned 47 Using a micrometer, measure the iameter of each journal at several points (see illustration).
