TOTAL INTERNAL

REFLECTION

WHAT IS REFLECTION.
Reflection is the change in direction of an interface between two different media example; water air.

WHAT IS THE REFLECTION OF LIGHT

Light reflects from a smooth surface at the same angle as it hits the surface. The Law of
Reflection states that the angle of the incident light ray is equal to the angle of the reflected
light ray.

When a ray of light approaches a smooth polished surface and the light ray bounces back.
The ray that bounces back is called the reflected ray.

The incident ray, the reflected ray and the normal all lie in the same plane
•The angle of incidence = Angle of reflection
Types of Reflection of Light

Regular reflection also known as specular reflection

•Diffused reflection
Reflection is when light bounces off an object. If the surface is smooth and shiny,
like glass or water.
Scattering of light
Some light is scattered in all
directions when it hits very small
particles such as gas molecules or
much larger particles such as dust
or droplets of water.
Reflection is when light bounces off an object. If the surface is smooth and shiny,
like glass or water.

Total internal reflection

Internal reflection is the optical phenomenon in which the surface of the water in a fish-tank, viewed from
below the water level, reflects the underwater scene like a mirror, with no loss of brightness.

It is the optical phenomenon in which the surface of the water in a fish-tank,

viewed from below the water level, reflects.
