Evaluation

This shoot is very similar to the previous one as it is of the same building in Reading. However, I think I
did a better job at making the images in this shoot feel more spacious compared to the photographs
in the previous shoot.

I also did a good job at looking up at the building compared to shoots one and two which helps to
convey my meaning within this shoot. Although the images are in black and white still, they feel more
spacious here as I used a different viewpoint and included more of the sky in the frame which helped
to brighten the image up and make it feel more open. This is a very good thing as it means that the
viewer doesn’t feel too overwhelmed by the darkness of the images and can actually try to
understand and interpret the images for themselves.

I edited these images in the same way as I did in the previous shoot, using Adobe Photoshop’s black
and white filter to start, and then based on the image itself, adjusting the brightness and contrast to
suit the photograph. I think the black and white suits the old architecture well however I would say I
prefer shooting modern architecture as it suits to produce those images in colour. I really liked the
colour images I have produced so far in this project and it think moving forwards I would like to
continue with modern architecture in colour. Saying this, I would also like to try shooting old
architecture on a film camera and developing and printing it in the darkroom as I think this could be
quite effective. When I think about the time the old architecture I’m shooting was built, I would assume
it was at a time when film cameras were the only thing around and therefore this could be nostalgic to
the more mature audience.

Overall, I am happy with this shoot however I think that it has solidified my decision moving forwards
to continue shooting mode architecture and producing the final photographs in colour so they feel
open and spacious. I would, however, like to do one more shoot of old architecture, in the project, on
a film camera to see how effective this could be.
