Professional Progress Summary

NURS 481 – Role Transition

Purpose of Assignment
The purpose of this paper is to guide the nursing student through a process of self-
reflection and self-evaluation to discover the scope of their personal and professional
development while enrolled in the undergraduate nursing program.

Student Approach to Assignment

This project afforded the opportunity to reflect on the time that I spent learning and
practicing during the nursing program at ODU. I had the pleasure of looking back through
assignments and clinical logs to view the progress that I have made as a student and nurse. I then
selected some of the most important and impactful experiences to share with the reader. I have
made a handful of lifelong friends through this program, and this assignment allowed me to
reflect on many positive experiences that didn’t make it into this paper.

Reason for Inclusion of this Assignment in the Portfolio

This assignment was included in my portfolio because it is a snapshot of some of the most
important experiences that I had during the last two years. Additionally, many of these
experiences contributed to the competencies which must be exemplified by the graduating nurse.
I am extremely proud of the care that I provide to all patients and the support that I have
provided to my fellow students during my time in the nursing program and this paper allows the
reader develop a better understanding of the lifelong practice I plan to maintain.
